This advanced level Compensation Consultant role will be focused on enabling the growth of our company by designing and delivering programs to recognize and reward our employees. As part of a compensation team, you will provide leadership to other members of the compensation team and our HR business partners in consulting with the business. You’ll work with business leaders and management to address current challenges. As a Compensation Consultant, you will help design, consult, and provide feedback on compensation programs that align with our total rewards philosophy for base salary and variable pay programs, compensation communication and training, and compensation technologies and tools.
Develop customer-specific compensation strategies to address issues such as retention, attraction, and engagement
Administration of Duke Energy base and variable pay programs, job evaluation using market pricing methodology, support for reorganizations, and policy guidance
Provide guidance and support to teammates on one-time and on-going projects, such as the annual merit and incentive cycle, M&A activities, salary surveys or developing new recognition programs
Provide data analytics to support strategic resource decisions, labor negotiations, or budget development
Provide input for various requests including company communications and media inquiries, regulatory filings, and internal/external audit requests
Identify root causes of issues and risk, implement key controls and recognize opportunities for customer experience and process improvements
Troubleshoot and provide support to HR and end-users of our tools and technologies

Senior Compensation Consultant
Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related field of study and five (5) or more years of HR or related experience OR nine (9) or more years of HR or related experience, without a degree
Lead Compensation Consultant
Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or related field of study
Six (6) or more years of HR or related experience
Master’s Degree in Human Resources or related field of study
Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) designation
Three (3) to five (5) years of relevant compensation consulting experience including fixed and variable compensation programs (incentive, bonus and sales compensation)
Experience with market-pricing software (i.e. MarketPay)
Understanding of external factors affecting market conditions and other issues directly impacting the utility industry
Experience working in a regulated environment
Sound analytical and problem-solving skills required to analyze complex issues, develop logical conclusions and make appropriate recommendations
Ability to exercise independent judgment within broadly defined policies and practices
Ability to manage through difficult conversations while maintaining partnerships and reaching an optimal solution
Advanced Excel skills in working with large files, creating macros, utilizing lookups & Pivot Tables, and data manipulations- Excellent technology skills (i.e. Workday experience)
Strong, effective facilitation and presentation skills
Project management experience
Ability to deal effectively with all levels of employees and management, including executives
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
