This position plans and coordinates the City of Columbia’s community events and programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations; and performs related professional and administrative work as required. The incumbent works within a general outline of work to be performed, and plans, organizes and schedules programs within major organizational policies under general supervision.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Ensures department compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations;
Files and updates event book;
Performs event and meeting setup;
Reviews, plans and approves logistical setup for special events, press conferences, and meetings that involve internal and external customers;
Schedules and conducts logistic meetings to ensure events are effective and efficient;
Receives and responds to inquiries, concerns, complaints and requests for assistance regarding areas of responsibility;
Performs general administrative / clerical work as required; including but not limited to preparing reports and correspondence, coping and filing documents, entering and retrieving computer data, conducting and attending meetings; etc.;
Attends training, conferences, seminars, meetings, etc., to maintain awareness of changing trends and legislation in the area of special events; and
Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:
High school diploma or GED;
Three (3) years of relevant prior experience;
Valid South Carolina Class “D” Driver’s License.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The work is considered light and involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis or routine keyboard operations.
