WGL - Research & Data Analyst (DIMP Analyst or Sr DIMP Analyst)
WGL/Washington Gas has an immediate opening for a Research & Data Analyst to join our Distribution Integrity Management Program (DIMP) group.
You Will
Create reproducible research and is prepared to defend conclusions
Connect to databases, writes SQL queries, joins data, ‘wrangles data’, and creates data visualizations (charts, graphs) that illustrate relevant points
Support database management
Use statistical methods to measure the correlative relationship between datasets
Use statistical methods to evaluate predictive model performance (back-testing, benchmarking, sensitivity testing, etc.)
Build charts, graphs, dashboards, summary tables, and other graphical representations to illustrate key findings in data
Search for industry papers in academic and professional journals compiles papers and refers to key research with citation
Intentionally dedicates effort to employ inductive and deductive reasoning to frame complex problems
Understand decision heuristics and the importance of variable weighting
Develop mathematic models or algorithms to forecast outcomes using historical data
Meet with company engineering staff and subject matter engineers to elicit opinion, direction, support, and coordination
Present findings of research to internal company panels and outlines proposed solutions
Work closely with various staff (e.g. Analysis & Reporting, Replacements, System Planning, Mapping, IT, Operations, Construction, etc.) to develop knowledge of their systems’ data and needs.
You Have
Bachelor's Degree Computer Science, Information Technology, GIS, or other Data Engineering field
3+ Years of experience in Computer Science, Information Technology, GIS, or another related field
Ability to systematically debug code, reduce I/O strain on ETL processes, and troubleshoot SQL for performance gains.
Knowledge of data engineering best practices across the development lifecycle – including agile methodologies, sustainable coding standards, code reviews, source code management, testing, and maintaining code.
Experience administering ESRI, Open Source, or Spatial Databases (GIS)
Intermediate knowledge of SQL for data management in a relational database
Intermediate knowledge of scripting languages such as Python or Node.js
Knowledge of Safe Software FME for extract, transforming, and load data operations
Experience with programmatically automating the extraction of data from public or vendor data APIs
Automating server-side scripting for backend data update pipelines
Working knowledge of the energy industry
Working knowledge of Power BI, Magik, and cloud architectures such as Amazon AWS or Microsoft Azure
Experience in Data Engineering and/or Data Architecture
