Job Summary

Responsible for mechanical design of products from concept, development, field installation, production launch, and service. Includes responsibility for bills of materials and 3D modeling of designs. Follows the leadership and coaching of the Team Leader and Engineering Manager. Demonstrates the ability to complete tasks and projects within a budget and deadline. Works well within the team setting, openly shares perspective in team meetings and contributes to discussions in a constructive manner.

Job Function and Responsibilities

Product Design

Communicate with Team Leader, Engineering Manager, and Product Manager to understand and verify product requirements and cost targets.
Analyze and identify risks
Prepare concept, design, development, and feasibility studies of complex engineering projects
Create 3-D models using Creo software
Perform design calculations and necessary analysis, including computer simulations
Coordinate/perform product tests on concept and prototype builds
Keep abreast of the latest technological advancements and prepare design concepts and design features that are often able to be patented by GSI to gain a competitive advantage in the market
Work closely with other company departments, such as Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality, R&T, Technical Service, etc.
Qualifications and Experience

2-5 years of experience of design/product engineering
Strong communication, organization, and presentation skills
Understanding and appreciation of mechanical design and engineering best practices, utilizing 3D modeling for various materials and manufacturing processes.
Strong time-management and creative problem solving skills
Ability to work in a deadline oriented, fast paced, and flexible environment
Ability to work either independently or in a team setting demonstrating a positive work attitude
Good mechanical aptitude with the ability to deliver innovative products
Strong Windows and Microsoft Office skills, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Proficiency in Creo (Pro-E) a plus
Experience in the swine/poultry industry a plus
Strong project management skills , including building project schedules, resourcing, tracking, and reporting status a plus
Knowledge on sheet metal production, plastic injection molding, and machining a plus

BS or higher in Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field

Travel Required

10-20% travel
