This role will serve the Controller’s Office of General Accounting by helping improve the overall financial position and stability, and compliance, of the University, and to provide timely, accurate and complete financial information to the students, faculty, staff, administrators of the University, the Board of Visitors, and external users.
As a member of the General Accounting team, this position will complete some of the complex, difficult, and most critical tasks associated with the operational aspects of General Accounting. Complete reconciliations of the University’s accounting records to outside systems and local banks. Complete the monthly and fiscal year-end reconciliations of non-personal expenditures. Maintain the integrity and accuracy of the University’s cash receipt transactions through reviewing activity of transactions posted in the various bank accounts, processing daily deposit certificates from the Cashier’s Office and Cash & Investments, and reconciling the local bank accounts. Analyze, monitor, record, and reconcile some of the University’s liabilities. Complete and/or assist with the completion of fiscal year-end financial reports.
Considerable knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles as they apply to colleges & universities and to other governmental agencies. Working knowledge of State and/or Federal policies/procedures for accounting and reporting. Demonstrated experience using database retrieval software such as Access, FINDS and /or FOCUS. Experience/knowledge preparing reconciliations of large amounts of data (cash, revenue, expenses). Experience working with Ellucian Banner, Cardinal, or similar data systems required. Working knowledge of computer systems, both mainframe and personal computers. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, both oral and written.
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field or a combination education and experience highly preferred.
