This is a full-time, 80% schedule, exempt, benefited position, which may include some travel, weekend and evening hours as needed.
Reports to the Director of Advancement, and works closely with other members of the Advancement Team.. Works closely with the CEO, Board of Directors and members of the Administrative, Finance, and Clinical Teams.
Position will fill in for Director of Advancement when he/she is on vacation.
The ideal candidate possesses a proven track record in fundraising including major giving, corporate relations, campaigns, events, peer-to-peer fundraising, and building a network of donors.
Serves as an articulate, enthusiastic and visible spokesperson for the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
Identify, cultivate, recruit and engage prospective individual, corporate, public and private donors.
In collaboration with the CEO and Director of Advancement, implement strategies to grow the prospect pipeline as well as donor portfolios, cultivate relationships and schedule meetings with existing and new donors.
Meets an agreed-upon annual revenue goal and quarterly benchmarks. This plan will include monthly, quarterly and yearly goals for donor contacts (personal, print, and electronic), personal visits with major donors and prospects, and monthly and yearly fundraising monetary targets.
Meet with donors and prospects. It is expected that the Major Gifts Officer will hold at least 1-2 donor visits weekly. Engage donors and prospects at events and other venues as part of the cultivation process.
Steward and solicit an existing portfolio of 50+ individual donors and prospects. Design and implement short and long term strategies to strengthen existing relationships with current donors and expand the donor pipe line through the acquisition of new donors in collaboration with the Director of Advancement.
In collaboration with the Advancement team, participate in producing mailing lists, donor and prospect research, appeal preparation, electronic solicitation, tracking of results, and adjusting strategies as needed.
Track and report on results of appeals and special campaigns, adjusting strategies as needed by accessing database, pulling reports, and filtering data.
Personal and timely acknowledgements that are fresh and authentic in content to major donors and prospects.
Work in collaboration with Grant Writer/Communications Coordinator to design and produce all marketing and communication collateral material, including but not limited to: appeal letters, newsletters, promotional brochures, annual reports, letters of intent (LOI), grants, event invitations and programs as needed.
In tandem with the Director of Advancement, work at the forefront of assigned public relation efforts.
Oversee the work of vendors, including graphic designers, writers, photographers, and printers, providing high-quality materials within budget parameters as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned to achieve strategic advancement and organizational goals that result in increased gifts and positive exposure.
Special Events & Other Support
Create, initiate, and provide oversight of the planning, organizing, budgeting and coordination of small to large fundraising and donor cultivation events.
Work with Director of Advancement to formulate the annual budget that integrates all aspect of advancement and fundraising program and integration of short and long-term income and expenses.
Works comfortably in a sub-acute health care setting serving children who are seriously ill and/or dying, and their families.
Perform job duties in an ethical and culturally sensitive manner without regard to any protected category as defined by federal, state or local law.
Must have personal, reliable transportation, valid and current CA Driver's License, good driving record and insurance.
Background check will be required based on job duties.
Must have personal initiative and work collegiality with a team.
Ability to identify and engage new and prospective donors and funding partners.
Stays current on donor relations and stewardship trends, strategies and services offered by non-profits.
Communicate effectively with donors, community stakeholders, patients, patients’ families, staff, volunteers, and contractors using advanced written, verbal, editing and proofreading skills.
Strong knowledge base of annual giving programs, including direct mail and online campaign/mass marketing experience.
Provide a high level of professionalism, responsiveness and customer service to internal and external constituencies.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships and interactions with high level internal and external individuals is essential.
Demonstrate a high level of initiative, attention to detail and the ability to follow-through on assignments to completion.
Strong organizational skills, with demonstrated ability to prioritize, coordinate several projects simultaneously, and work independently or with a team.
On a daily basis, show the skills and basic competencies of an advancement professional, including managing multiple, competing and varied tasks, time management, listening skills, problem solving, decision making, and delegation of duties and successfully managing work-flow.
Excellent client service skills, including in-person and on the phone.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
BA or BS degree or equivalent in a related field.
Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in fundraising, emphasis in the major donor arena, with a successful track record of closing gifts.
Demonstrated success and experience in fundraising, event management, community and public relations, and marketing at nonprofit organizations.
