Volunteer with MindRight as a Mental Health Coach

About MindRight

MindRightis a tech + social justice nonprofit with the mission to empower youth of color to heal from trauma from systemic oppression. We provide daily, personalized mental health coaching over text message to teens. We provide school partners real-time data on student emotional wellness to drive systems change. Our vision is to use technology to create opportunities for systemic healing for communities of color. Forbes has recognized MindRight as one of the top 30 innovations of the next century.

The Coach Role

Our Coaches are at the core of what we do. Coaches use our web application to provide youth with personalized coaching over text message. Daily text conversations follow our framework, Empathize-Normalize-Stabilize, to empower youth to build positive coping skills. As a Coach, you become someone our students rely on. You also collect real-time data that we use to drive systems change at the school, district, and city level.

Our service is not clinical and coaches do not need a license or clinical background. Our coaching model is grounded in evidence-based practices for managing traumatic stress, including Trauma-focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, and Positive Psychology. Coaches go through our rigorous training program (20 hours). Coaches receive ongoing support throughout their time with MindRight.

This is a remote, virtual volunteer role. When you are serving as a coach, you are supervised in real-time by a MindRight Coach Supervisor - a licensed mental health clinician.
