The Maintenance Refrigeration/HVAC Technician ensures proper maintenance and operational status of equipment associated with the Refrigeration and HVAC of the entire Bakery. Affected equipment includes building structures, manufacturing equipment, and support systems utilized by the plant.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
This position requires the “hands on” maintenance and operational routines needed to successfully operate plant refrigeration, boiler, associated utility systems, along with the plant water distribution system, HVAC system and all other support systems.
Partners with Department Head, Maintenance and Operations Teams to focus on improvement projects and initiatives.
Performs preventative maintenance and repair of all plant Refrigeration, HVAC, Boiler and Utility equipment and maintenance of plant production equipment as needed.
Assists the Maintenance Manager with weekend rotation as needed for Refrigeration and Alarm issues.
Maintains and follows plant Process Safety Management program that meets all regulatory requirements.
Assists in maintaining the plant's HAZMAT program and equipment.
Trains/assists other members on Refrigeration/HVAC basics, acting as mentor for the development of qualified Refrigeration Technicians.
Researches parts needed for work/repairs and properly utilizes the parts inventory and work order systems.
Covers areas of the plant as assigned by the Department Manager.
Understands and follows all Plant and Department Safety rules and programs.
Maintains and promotes high standards of work targeted to achieving safe, optimal process performance.
Monitors abnormal process and equipment conditions, incidents, hazards or emergencies.
Closely monitors critical process parameters, process performance and efficiency, and initiates changes necessary through work teams.
Writes reports for planning activities, relevant analysis, maintenance procedures and any suggestions to the manager.
Ensures completion of project work as needed or required.
Enforces safety regulations.
Leads by example in a positive and collaborative manner.
Coaches and helps team members to excel in their assigned tasks.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
Ability to speak and understand some Spanish is preferred.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
Ability to be a team player and work well with technicians/operators within their department and with other departments.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated success in the maintenance and operation of industrial Refrigeration and Boiler systems, with solid skills in electrical, mechanical, PLC and plumbing.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
Availability to work any shift as well as weekends as required.
Availability to work overtime (end of shift and weekends).
May be assigned to work in cold or hot conditions.
Most positions are located in areas with periodic loud noise and will require hearing protection.
Ability to stand for at least an 8 hour shift.
Ability to lift 10-50 pounds on a periodic basis.
Other conditions include flour dust, wet floors, occasional smoke and fumes from cleaning chemicals (ammonia).
Ability to climb ladders.
Ability to stoop to reach material and will also require bending, twisting, torquing, kneeling, etc.
Ability to stand, walk, lift, squat, and climb for extended periods.
