Description of Work: An employee in this position will perform a variety of office assistant tasks as generalists in support of administrative, program or technical operations. Employees spend a large percentage of time operating office equipment. The completion of work often involves a public contact role to obtain, clarify, or provide general information regarding the activities of the work unit or program. The work requires a general knowledge of agency policies and procedures in order to communicate information to the community. Employees spend a large percentage of time in office machine operation to support the overall work units. Several software packages may be used to enter, retrieve, verify, and research actions. Employees may work individually or in combination with other office support personnel. They report to higher level administrative employees, first line supervisors, and/or the Agency Director.

Employee may be called upon in times of disaster, either natural or man-made to staff an evacuation shelter or handle other assigned duties. This is a requirement of the position and failure to serve may result in adverse action.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: General knowledge of office or work unit procedures; ability to use correct spelling, punctuation and specialized vocabulary; ability to proofread. General knowledge of office accounting and record keeping procedures, mathematics and their application in the work environment; ability to learn and apply a variety of guidelines applicable to the work process. Ability to use a variety of office equipment including computer, calculator, fax machine, postage meters. Ability to record and compile information based on general guidelines. Ability to work with people with courtesy and tact in performing public contact duties.

Minimum Education and Experience: Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledge, skills, and abilities gained through at least one year of office assistant/secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
