We are seeking a Unix Systems Administrator with experience working in a complex computing environment to join our Engineering Support team. You will be supporting our branch engineering office in Durham, NC.
This is not a beginner level help desk position - our customer base consists of thousands of extraordinary engineers who will continually challenge you with complex and interesting problems.
What you'll be doing:
Your deep understanding of RedHat and Ubuntu Linux administration is a requirement.
Although this is a senior level position that will involve technical project work, you will be responsible for user support in the Durham office.
This will include regular meetings with engineering leadership, assessing users' needs, training of engineers and junior IT staff, and reporting back to headquarters on the heath of the Durham office and compute environment.
Because this position supports many users and systems in a worldwide production environment, your good judgment and attention to detail are needed. We strive to automate any repetitive tasks, empower our users with self-service tools, and provide clear documentation. A friendly, outgoing personality and strong written and verbal interpersonal skills are essential.
What we need to see:
5+ years of experience
Bachelors Degree or Equivalent experience
You will have deep understanding and experience with:
General Unix administration and problem solving
RedHat (or derivative) and Ubuntu administration
Linux desktop environments such as Gnome, KDE, VNC, NX, etc.
TCP/IP networking fundamentals
DNS, NIS, and DHCP administration
NFS file sharing and the Linux automounter
Building, installation, and support of GNU/FSF development tools
Shell scripting and automation of repetitive administration tasks
In addition, you will need a passionate dedication to providing excellence in IT support to your users. Your ability to serve in a weekly rotation of 24/7 on-call support (shared with your global counterparts) is also needed.
Ways to stand out of the crowd:
Perl or Python programming experience is helpful. We are open to other languages, but you will work with a large Perl tool chain, and Python use is rapidly growing.
NetApp fileserver administration
InfoBlox DNS appliance administration
Unix/Windows/AD interoperability and CIFS file sharing
Apache web server administration
Batch queuing software such as LSF, Grid, etc.
Experience deploying and using Docker containers is useful. Our use of Docker is growing rapidly.
Source code and version control systems such as Perforce, Git, etc.
Configuration management tools such as Puppet, Ansible, etc.
Linux firewalls, security, and packet filtering
