POSITION TITLE: NETWORK SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR II

DIVISION: Clerks Technology Division

REPORTS TO: Supervisor – Server Technologies Supervisor

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Projects and junior staff as directed.

GENERAL FUNCTION:

NATURE OF WORK

This is an advanced technical position responsible for high level technical resolutions and administrative maintenance. This position is instrumental in the analysis, development, preparation and implementation of diversified and complex information systems within the Clerk’s Office.

This role holds the responsibility of managing a diverse datacenter environment which includes both planning and implementing critical projects in support of a wide range of complex applications that rely on server functionality. This includes upgrades, maintenance and migrations and proactive monitoring of 24x7 mission critical systems.

Along with the planning and implementation of critical projects, the position also conducts daily tasks to ensure the proper functionality of all server based systems. These systems are distributed over 275 Windows-based servers (both Physical and Virtual) and involve Email, Data Storage, Web Resources and various third party applications.

The applicant must have extensive knowledge of virtualization in conjunction with SAN Technologies, long term storage and deduplication concepts.

The environment also includes numerous other applications that would be commonly found in an enterprise-level environment. Work is reviewed by the Server Technologies Supervisor or MIS Manager through weekly status meetings, reports, and daily contact.

This position requires a high level of independent judgment, technical skill, organization and planning. Must possess a core set of troubleshooting skills and technical knowledge that can yield timely results without delay and successfully multi-task several assignments without loss of quality. A strong focus on documentation is essential to success at this position. Experience with an enterprise ticketing system and ticketing concepts is required.

Employees in this class are required to liaise with various internal divisions/external vendors and clearly communicate technical requirements, departmental initiatives and relevant statuses both in email and in person.

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

This position performs the intermediate to advanced functions of a Server Administrator assigned to maintain systems of the Clerk’s network. This entails travel to remote locations and includes installations of new server hardware in all such locations. This position works closely with the Network Systems Administrator I and III positions.

Responsible for coverage after normal working hours for non-standard processing situations, position vacancies, or when shifts in daily hours are warranted to improve coverage in peak or critical processing cycles. Due to the critical nature of the work, it will be necessary to provide “On-call" or “Call-back" services as deemed appropriate by the department.

Responsible for Windows-based Server Administration, including server-based security for the operating systems, server applications, and server accounts.

Responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining storage, replication and backups.

Responsible for diagnosing layer 3 networking issues and providing instruction for remediation.

Responsible for user security in the environments the Clerk’s Office.

Responsible for daily backups for all server systems and data integrity for the possibility of a restore.

Must coordinate problem resolution and problem avoidance processes with technical staff of CTD to develop, implement and document problem-solving techniques to immediately remedy user problems.

Writes and maintains documentation for the network.

Responsible for updating the Operations Procedure Manual to accurately depict the current working environment.

Assists operational staff in evaluating the work of temporarily assigned staff subordinate employees, provides training to junior operators in supervised operational data.

Responsible for maintaining lines of communication in regards to system availability, planned downtime, unexpected outages, and all related areas with all the Clerk of Courts staff operating on an automated basis in order to keep them apprised of changes to their operating system that might affect productivity and efficiency.

Prepares procedural recommendations and documents troubleshooting procedures for the server-related items, both hardware and software.

Promotes teamwork among staff and co-workers.

Interfaces effectively by using email, phone, or verbal communications with users to determine their communication needs and recommends cost-efficient solutions.

Performs network repairs and service work at all sites including remote datacenters.

Ensures that organizational policies are followed and reports unresolved problems to the appropriate support tier promptly.

Assists in installing, configuring and maintaining network and communications software; troubleshoots and resolves hardware, software and network problems.

Maintains records and reports on systems and software specifications and configuration.

Works closely with the Network team in troubleshooting and determining best practices for communication on the LAN/WAN/Internet.

Responsible for the AS/400 environment, including operating system, applications, and backups as required.

Prepare systems for production and testing, interfaces with teleprocessing, programming and systems programming personnel for on-line and batch coordination

Controls the operation of printers, disk drives, and tape drives, readers, and other production related equipment though subordinate production control personnel.

Reconfigure systems, storage, power and input/output devices required to accommodate heavy or unusual use of operation.

Assists operational staff in evaluating the work of temporarily assigned staff subordinate employees, provides training to junior operators in supervised operational data.

Assists in the installation and maintenance of the data communications equipment.

Performs the installation, testing and evaluation of diagnostic equipment.

Performs related work as required.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Continual growth and knowledge, understanding, and skills of the technologies required to support the infrastructure of the Clerk’s network and devices. Continual training through certification coursework, and special training seminars or opportunities as made available from Clerk funding sources.
  • Advanced Administration of Virtual infrastructures in conjunction with SAN storage which includes Site Recovery Manager, Fault Tolerance, HA, and DRS. Must be proficient with the setup and configuration of virtual networking components.
  • Advanced administration of SANs (with Clustering technologies) which includes coordination and implementation of storage system upgrades and patching strategies. Performs system capacity analysis and planning to ensure continuous operation and resource utilization optimization. Able to install, configure, and maintain storage, replication, snapshots and backups.
  • In depth knowledge of SAN storage components such as NFS, CIFS, SVMs, Fiber Channel, Multi-pathing.
  • Advanced administration of Backup and Replication technologies which includes configuring backup and replication jobs and performing system recovery.
  • Advanced administration of Email Infrastructures which include configuration of fault tolerance, Database maintenance best practices, Migration of data to various datacenters and backup/restore configuration.
  • Advanced administration of the Microsoft Systems Center Suite.
  • Advanced administration of Windows operating systems.
  • Advanced Web content filtering administration which includes performing upgrades, planning and implementation of diversified filtering policies.
  • Advanced Administration/Knowledge of Active Directory which includes DFS, Group Policy, Replication and AD architecture.
  • Experience with SIEM concepts and real-time monitoring tools to identify and address emerging security threats through the use of continuous monitoring, alerting and analytics.
  • Experience with Enterprise or related Email Security and Protection Software.
  • Experience with automation using Windows PowerShell.
  • Experience with Enterprise Virus Scanning or related centralized security management software. Able to identify, manage and respond to security issues and threats.
  • Experience with administering Cisco Routers and Switches which includes VLANs, Firewall ACLs, NAT and routing.
  • Thorough knowledge of systems analysis, statistics, and formal principles of reasoning.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of state-of-the-art automated hardware, software, and communications technologies and trends.
  • Ability to adhere to and promote all policies and procedures set forth by management.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic team environment which requires cross-training team members and knowledge sharing.
  • Ability to analyze workflows, design diagrams, and other diagram formats utilized to communicate technical processes, procedures, and inter-relationships.

POSITION KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Advanced administrative experience in systems administration, server operations or any equivalent combination of training and experience.

  • Ability to lift materials (for example, documentation binders) weighing up to forty (40) pounds without assistance during the course of a standard business day, or for a full standard business day if required.
  • Ability to reach high shelves and bend below desk levels without assistance (access boxes, documentation binders, etc.) during the course of a standard business day, or for a full standard business day if required.
  • Ability to participate in meetings or Tele-conferences for duration of up to four (4) hours.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in written form, clearly and concisely, with superiors, managers, and clients and directors of the Office of the Clerk of Courts.
  • Ability to sit and utilize a standard computer workstation configuration (standard CPU, standard monitor, standard keyboard, etc.) during the course of a standard business day, or for a full standard business day if required.
  • Ability to perform minor computer related equipment installations/maintenance involving considerable manual dexterity while employing such tools as screwdrivers, small pliers, etc.
  • Ability to visit various offices in different geographical locations within and without the courthouse. This includes the ability to travel to the satellite offices.
  • Must have the ability to visually inspect/view and manipulate small computer components.
  • Firm understanding of servers and operating systems.
  • Ability to handle escalations from Helpdesk Analysts or Systems Administrators. Assists the Help Desk and provides phone support as needed to Help Desk staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college with course work in computer science or information systems.

5-7 years of experience in the field of server technologies which include:

  • Advanced administration of Windows Server 2008, 2012 or 2016.
  • Advanced administration of Active Directory
  • Advanced experience with NetApp SANs or similar enterprise storage technologies.
  • Advanced administration of VMWare infrastructure.
  • Advanced Experience with Microsoft Exchange 2010, 2013 or 2016.
  • Advanced experience with Veeam or similar enterprise backup and replication technologies

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MCSE, MCSA, MCITP, VMCE, VCP, CCNA Certifications
  • 8+ years of experience in the field of server technologies.
  • 5+ years of advanced administration of Windows Server 2008, 2012 or 2016
  • 5+ years of advanced experience with Active Directory

Salary: $57,928.00 to $92,664.00 /year
