The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Social Services Program Coordinator I at the Loudoun County Corps, located in Leesburg, VA.
The Salvation Army, Loudoun County location, is seeking a strong human services professional to administer existing, on-going and seasonal social service programs. He/she will manage emergency rental, mortgage and utility assistance, as well as food, clothing, and furniture assistance to effectively meet the needs of the community. The incumbent will assist in implementing the Pathway of Hope Program model (strength-based approach), which requires exceptional case management skills to identify potential participants; achieve successful intake; provide thorough assessments and deliberate case planning to ensure documented outcomes. The incumbent serves as leader in the community through liaison activities with other community service providers, performing public speaking engagements and promoting program services.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of principles and practices of human services program development and administration. Knowledge of social service resources and community services agencies in the vicinity. Knowledge of principles and practices of crisis intervention counseling and assessment as well as dynamics and issues of domestic violence, sexual abuse, mental illness, substance abuse, causes of homelessness, etc. Knowledge of databases, Microsoft Office products and Outlook. Knowledge of principles and practices of public relations and effective communication. Skill in listening for barriers to success and offer practical solutions. Skill in managing competing priorities to ensure that their clients are getting the attention they need. Skill in problem solving, conflict management and familial dynamics. Ability to provide skillful client assessments to ensure clients are getting the help they need. Ability to provide leadership in the community to promote program services. Ability to perform public speaking. Ability to motivate, lead, supervise, and evaluate subordinate staff. Ability to develop and enforce confidentiality. Ability to maintain confidentiality of client and social service-related information. Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to perform basic mathematical computations. Ability to work some evening and weekend work hours.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work, Human Services or Business Administration, or related field; and three years of social services experience working with vulnerable populations or experience in a residential facility or case management experience. Demonstrated experience working with databases, HMIS or Service Point (preferred). Excellent oral, written, interpersonal communication and time management skills.
Ability to speak, read, and write Spanish is a plus.
Licenses and Certifications
Valid State Driver’s License. Must pass The Salvation Army Risk Management guidelines for operating a TSA vehicle (MVR Clearance).
Physical and Mental Requirements
Ability to concrete and focus for extended periods of time. Ability to remain calm in stressful situations. Ability to deescalate clients when TSA is unable to meet their needs. Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. The position requires the ability to stoop, kneel, reach, stand, walk, push, pull and lift.
Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with weather or discomforts associated with noise, dirt, and the like.
