Under limited direction, serves as Assistant Train Supervisor on Grapevine Vintage Railroad's (GVRR) Excursion Train, Stockyard ticket office and Depot facilities. Assists in operating the Excursion Train to maximize passenger, concession, and merchandising revenue, while providing a high quality of customer service and passenger safety. May be required to perform duties while wearing period appropriate railroad related character attire, i.e.: 19th Century Conductor, Hobo, Brakeman, Marshall, etc.
Examples of Duties
Assists in all operations in the passenger area of the Excursion Train; assists in supervising passenger car preparation for the scheduled run, which includes stocking concessions and merchandise on board, visually checking the train for mechanical and structural problems, and reporting such to supervisor.
Responsible for providing the highest level of service to passengers and the public; supervises passenger boarding and de-boarding; monitors passenger safety while train is running; maintains order and precautions to prevent damage to the train and train equipment.
Assists in hiring and training of train attendants; supervises, schedules, and trains employees; participates in scheduling and evaluating subordinates; instructs subordinates in operational safety; supervises and trains subordinates in ticket, concession, and merchandise sales.
Prepares and maintains employee related paperwork and daily revenue and rider reports.
Assists with annual budget preparation; participates with preparing orders and maintains all concession and merchandise inventory.
Works with GVRR sales to develop Charter packages and grow client outreach.
Through the management, direction, and supervision of subordinates, the Assistant Train Supervisor is accountable for all revenue collected from ticket, concession, and merchandise sales, and its proper accounting.
Sells concessions and merchandise on board; ensures accurate reconciliation of money collected at ticket offices and on the train.
Assists with cleaning and maintenance of concession equipment, passenger cars and restrooms; ensures train doors and gangplanks are secured at the end of the day's run.
In conjunction with CVB staff, develops Heritage and entertaining onboard experience programming; confirms subordinates are knowledgeable and trained to provide the history of the GVRR Excursion Train and Grapevine history and to promote restaurants, attractions and current special events taking place in Grapevine; ensures all customers of the Excursion Train have the ultimate train experience.
Must be able to work irregular hours and have flexible scheduled hours and days off; must be willing to work weekends, nights and holidays.
Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
Must have excellent skills in communicating orally and in writing.
Must have skill in operating cash registers and computers and performing data entry.
Ability to maintain accurate records.
Ability to organize and supervise employees, customer groups, and special events.
Ability to enforce policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
Ability to make mature judgements, work irregular hours and schedules and have physical ability to lift 20 lbs.
Knowledge of City policies, rules and regulations and applied health and alcohol laws and regulations.
Must be familiar with Federal Railroad safety regulations.
Ability to operate a variety of equipment including, but not limited to, the telephone, calculator, PC, credit card machine, copy machine, sound boards, portable radios, concession and kitchen equipment.
Ability to ensure onboard passenger comfort and safety at all times.
Ability to ensure all food and beverage items sold are done so in accordance with the local Health Department and Texas Alcohol Beverage Commission standards.
Ability to ensure a memorable train experience to all passengers by practicing the highest level of customer service by being knowledgeable of the history of the Steam Train and equipment, the history of Grapevine and special events occurring in Grapevine.
Ability to ensure all monies collected are accounted for and deposited daily.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
High school diploma or GED plus one-year of college and three years of experience in attraction management and operation or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
Must have or be able to obtain a food handler's certification within 30 days of hiring.
Must pass a Federal/National criminal background investigation and credit check and have a valid Texas driver's license with an acceptable driving record as defined by City policy.
