The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Library seeks to obtain library support services for multiple library locations nationwide. The services to be provided include: access services, digitization and digital library support, scientific reference research and instructional outreach, cataloging and collection management, and scientific records archiving. The USGS Library provides library resources and services to all USGS employees, other Federal and State agencies, and the public. Additionally, the Libraries Program collaborates with USGS Science Center Libraries located across the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii.
Support the library’s overall objectives in providing timely and accurate services to deliver relevant scientific materials and information via access to print, electronic, and archival collections to USGS scientists and the public.
Minimum/General Experience: At least two years of experience receiving, processing, filing, and/or retrieving media (paper, audio, visual) within a pre-defined and structured cataloging and storage system. Ability to work with some direct supervision on clearly defined tasks that may be of medium complexity.
Functional Responsibilities: Follows a number of specific procedures in completing several repetitive clerical steps performed in a prescribed or slightly varied sequence, such as coding and filing documents in an extensive alphabetical file, simple posting to individual accounts, opening mail, running mail through metering machines, and calculating and posting charges to departmental accounts. Little or no subject-matter knowledge is required, but the clerk needs to choose the proper procedure for each task.
