MITRE’s Strategic Communications team is seeking a seasoned Part Time on Call (PTOC) Technical Writer to support MITRE’s work with our Federally Funded Research and Development Centers. The PTOC Technical Writer will be responsible for writing and editing, including formatting technical and knowledge-based documentation. The position may be located at the MITRE headquarters in McLean, VA, or Bedford, MA. Telecommute may be considered, but at least one day onsite is preferred. This role requires an experienced technical writer who works well under tight timelines.
The Technical Writer will be responsible for editing a variety of technical documents on behalf of MITRE’s government sponsors. Other responsibilities include writing tasks, editing, proofreading, grammar, formatting, and revising for clarity. Deep experience with Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite is required. Security Clearance preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in English or related field preferred.
Demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities of someone with five to eight years of technical writing and editing experience
Adapt to a fast-paced, agile environment
Deliver quality and timely products
Possess advanced grammar and editing skills
Use MITRE templates, government templates, or defined templates as required
Edit documents using 508 compliance guidelines
Communicate professionally with Subject Matter Experts to clarify expectations of assignments
Advanced experience with Microsoft Office Suite and working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including Acrobat Pro
Strong analytical skills
Capable of working independently as well as with team members
Skilled in scientific story writing for a general audience
