The Operations Engineer is a technical expert who serves as a liaison between R&D and Supply. He/she helps commission, handover and maintain factory equipment while driving efficiencies in line with our North American Supply strategy. The qualified candidate will be responsible for project management, leading Six Sigma/continuous improvement activities, improving factory Safety, Quality, Efficiency, Conversion Costs and Scrap. He/she will also be instrumental in delivering our Factory Roadmap and product innovations in conjunction with our Mars Drinks R&D Team.
Leads commissioning and handover processes between R&D and Supply.
Identifies and establishes Standard Running Conditions to improve Safety, Quality and Conversion Costs
Resolves quality issues through proper problem solving techniques and Six Sigma methodolgy
Identifies and solves operational problems by observing and studying system functioning and performance results; investigates complaints and suggestions; interviews process managers, operators and support functions; identifies and establishes troubleshooting procedures and methodologies.
Identifies operational priorities by assessing operational objectives; determines project objectives, such as, efficiency, cost savings, energy conservation, operator convenience and ergonomics, safety, environmental quality; estimates relevance, time, and costs for approval by Supply leadership.
Develops operational solutions by defining, studying, estimating, and screening alternative solutions; determining impact on total production system.
Anticipates operational problems by studying operational targets, modes of operation, factory/process limitations; monitoring Supply performance.
Improves operational quality results by studying, evaluating, and recommending process re-design; implementing changes; contributing information and opinion to design and continuous improvement/reliability teams.
Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by following and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations and taking all into consideration during all processes.
Provides operational management information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing operating and engineering data and trends.
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations and obtaining/keeping professional certifications.
Leads continuous improvement activities for Supply and trains appropriate Associates
Maintain machine standards and line drawings to comply with manufacturer specifications.
Context and Scope
The position holder will work closely with the Supply Director, Operations Shift Managers, Industrial Engineer, R&D Team, Technical Manager, Cell Technicians, Fellow Operations Engineers, HSE Manager, Maintenance Manager, Quality Team and Machine Operators.
Peer relationships and Customer Service are important aspects of this role.
1. Education & Professional Qualification
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
Six Sigma/Continuous Improvement
Experience – 6+ years of experience as an Engineer
Engineering and Technology — Knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
Mathematics — Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
Design — Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
Mechanical — Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance/electronics or control systems
Physics — Knowledge and prediction of physical principles, laws, their interrelationships, and applications to understanding fluid, material, and atmospheric dynamics, and mechanical, electrical, atomic and sub-atomic structures and processes
Food or Beverage – Previous Food or Beverage industry experience, familiar with QMP, GMPs & HACCP
Previous R&D process development or CI Engineering experience
