The Department of Thoracic/Head and Neck Medical Oncology staff directly responsible for patient care is comprised of 20 physicians, 13 research nurses, two inpatient mid-level providers and 10 outpatient mid-level providers. Our physician team includes nine physicians who care only for thoracic medical oncology patients in the Thoracic Center, one medical oncologist who treats head/neck patients in the Head/Neck Center and 10 medical oncologists who treat both lung cancer and head/neck cancer patients in those respective outpatient clinic areas.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
To design, organize and perform research activities.

Maintain and Develop genetically engineered mouse models (GEMMs) of NSCLC
Maintain and breed existing GEMMs of inducible models of NSCLC including various KRAS mutant models, KRAS/LKB1 mutant models, and EGFR mutant models. Induce expression of transgenes through administration of doxycycline or adeno-cre via intrathoracic injection. Maintain detailed records of breeding schemes, genotype of progeny, and tumor development. Work with Vet Med staff to perform imaging to visualize tumor development. Perform histological studies to validate tumor development. Work with the PI and scientists in the lab to prioritize expansion of GEMMs for upcoming experiments.
Develop Novel GEMMs
Work independently to develop novel GEMMs as instructed by the PI. Conduct all procedures in accordance with IACUC regulations. Develop novel cell lines from tumors derived from GEMMs. Work with Vet Med when new GEMMs need to be cryopreserved. Integrate CRISPR technology into GEM models to enable more rapid alterations to be introduced into GEMMs.
Expertise in vitro and in vivo assays
Perform various injections in mice (including oral gavage, IP injections, IV injections, subcutaneous injections. Administer anesthesia to mice and perform survival surgeries including tumor resection, PDX implantations and orthotopic injections.The individual will work with existing members of the lab animal team and should be able to communicate well with others. Perform immunohistochemistry and PCR.

Bachelor's degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.
Five years of experience in scientific or experimental research work. With preferred degree, three years of required experience.
