- Emergency Essential staff must report to work in time in the event of inclement weather or emergency conditions whether or not the University is closed
Director, Public Safety
Reports to the Director of Public Safety. The Public Safety Director will provide general direction but the Security Officer position is expected to perform most responsibilities independently.
Not responsible for supervising any full time staff. At times the position may require overseeing student volunteers and / or employees.
Serves and protects students, employees, visitors and property of the University. Is a source of information after regular office hours or on weekends when the University is closed. Must be available to work all shifts. This includes weekends, evenings, holidays and special events. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education Level Required
High School Diploma or GED
Minimum Experience Level Required
One to three years months of related experience.
Physical Demands Required
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear and use hands to handle and feel objects; lift and / or move up to 50lbs; reach with hands and arms, climb and balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; occasionally lift and / or move up to 50lbs; have vision abilities that include close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Regularly exposed to outside weather conditions during all seasons; moderate to loud noise level depending on circumstances.
Compliance Responsibilities Required
Required to read, interpret and apply policies and procedures in assigned area; document as required by policies and procedures; maintain qualifications and certification and complete annual training as required by the position.
Required to have a valid driver’s license; first aid / CPR / AED training (offered upon hire and certification must be obtained and maintained); ability to learn to drive a security cart.

Position Key Accountabilities
Protects students, employees, visitors and property of the University. This includes remaining visible and assisting with routine and emergency situations; conducting regular and consistent campus patrols during assigned shift(s); searches for unusual activity; responds to all calls for assistance; assists ambulance, police and fire personnel as needed; maintains accurate log sheets and reports; remains current with special notice clipboard and updates; inspecting and securing buildings, preventing unauthorized individuals from entering buildings; lock or unlock building doors in a timely manner and as scheduled; issue parking tickets and enforce all parking and traffic rules; direct traffic as needed; make maintenance call assessments; electrical panel inspection and shut off; switch and water valve reset when needed. Other duties as assigned.
? Building Maintenance activities must be done with minimal supervision.

? Must be able to understand and apply instruction manuals.
? Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts to make calculations such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.
