Provides reproductive and sexual health education and counseling in group, classroom, one-on-one, and clinical settings. Participates in community outreach activities focused mainly on at-risk adolescents.
Provides educational, social and recreational opportunities to adolescents and young adults through service learning projects including, but not limited to, creation and development of peer health education programs.
. Implements age appropriate, evidence-based sexuality and reproduction education in group, classroom and clinical settings. Prepares and facilitates lesson plans according to established program curriculum.
. Provides sexual health information to youth and community members through participation in school initiatives, community events and street outreach.
. Provides sexual health education workshops for parents, teachers and other adults in the community.
. Engages clients in one-on-one reproductive health counseling, HIV pre-test and post-test counseling, and options counseling to pregnant patients in a thorough, unbiased and confidential manner
. Refers clients to appropriate medical and mental health resources to address issues outside the scope of the Division of Adolescent Medicine, as needed.
. Completes required documentation for department medical records, NYSDOH and grant reporting (i.e. counseling activities, demographics, attendance records, curricula checklists, satisfaction surveys, etc).
. Collaborates with healthcare team members to maintain coverage in all Division of Adolescent Medicine service areas and to address patient issues, as required.
. Attends and represents hospital’s Division of Adolescent Medicine at community and professional meetings and events.
. Identifies, obtains and maintains health education resource materials to be utilized by the Division of Adolescent Medicine.
. Performs related duties as required.
Bachelor’s Degree in Health Education or related field, required. Master’s Degree, preferred.
Minimum of one (1) year related experience working with youth in group, classroom or clinical setting, required.
Current knowledge of human sexual/reproductive health, required
Ability to communicate effectively with clients, while being sensitive to age and cultural diversity.
