Position Purpose:
The primary purpose of this job position is to perform the day-to-day activities of the Housekeeping function in accordance with Friendship Village established policies and procedures and any governmental regulations as apply.

Essential Functions/Accountabilities:
Is responsible for floor care/carpet cleaning utilizing the extractor, bonnet machine and VTC tile
Is responsible for day-to-day housekeeping function such as cleaning, polishing, sanitizing, sweeping, vacuuming, etc., all environmental surfaces, in both resident rooms and common areas of the facility (floor, ceiling, walls, fixtures, furniture, appliances, ashtrays), ensuring that established Infection Control practices and safety precautions are followed at all times.
Coordinates housekeeping services with nursing services whenever routine assignments occur in resident living areas or common areas and whenever emergency needs arise including routine/terminal isolation procedures.
Performs terminal cleaning procedures, as instructed, when a resident is discharged and/or transferred to another room/area.
Assures that assigned work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, comfortable, and attractive manner.
Reports all accidents, incidents, hazardous conditions or equipment to the Supervisor and keeps work/assignment areas free of hazardous objects, such as protruding mop/broom handles, unnecessary equipment, etc. Assures that equipment, tools, supplies, etc., are properly stored at all times, as well as before leaving such areas for breaks, meal times, and end of the work day
Reports any maintenance issues, such as burned out light bulbs, exit lights, overhead lights, fluorescent lights, room call lights, etc., to the supervisor as soon as possible.
Completes other responsibilities that may become necessary/appropriate to assure that our facility is maintained in a clean, safe and comfortable manner.

Other Responsibilities:
Attends in-service education sessions and other meetings.
Participates and assists in departmental studies and projects as directed and attends departmental and staff meetings as directed or called.
Keeps supervisor informed of supply needs. Assures that an adequate supply of housekeeping supplies are maintained in utility/janitorial closets to perform daily tasks.

Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Must be able to read, write, and understand the English language and speak the language in an understandable manner.
Must possess sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions follow instructions, and to accept constructive criticism.
Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and general public.
Must be a minimum of (18) years of age.
Must be willing to work harmoniously with other personnel, as well as be willing to handle residents based at whatever behavior or acuity level they are currently functioning.
Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility.
Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing housekeeping practices.
Must be able to follow written and oral instructions concerning the mixture of cleaning compounds, liquids, cleaning instructions, etc.
Must be able to push, pull, lift 50 lbs. regularly and occasionally push up to 150 lbs. and move equipment, supplies, etc., throughout the work day.
Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents during emergency situations.
Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
Must be able to maintain regular attendance.

Working Conditions:
Sits, stands, bends, lifts, pushes, pulls and moves intermittently during working hours.
Works in all areas of facility.
Is subject to frequent interruptions which may result in the need to reschedule cleaning activities.
Is subject to cuts, bruises, falls, burns from equipment, odors, etc.
May be exposed to infectious diseases, substances, contaminated articles, etc.
Communicates with other department personnel.
May be required to work in adverse weather conditions.
