About the role

The Mine Monitoring and Control Technician is part of the Mine Monitoring and Control (MMC) group at the Bingham Canyon Mine. This group brings together Dispatch Supervisors, MineCare Supervisors, Mine Monitoring and Control Engineers/Specialist, and a Mine Monitoring and Control Technician. Over the past year(s), Bingham Canyon Mine has made a significant investment in new technology in an effort to lower costs and improve efficiencies. The MMC group will maximize the potential of these new systems collecting the vast amount of data together into meaningful and reliable metrics and measures.

The Mine Monitoring and Control Technician works closely with the MMC Engineers/Specialists, MMC Supervisors, Maintenance Planners, IS&T Technicians, mine Craftsmen, mine Operators, and vendors (CAT, Wheeler, Komatsu) to minimize equipment downtime and life cycle costs. The Technician uses PdM technologies to identify equipment failures in their infancy. Thereby, allowing maintenance to be performed on a scheduled basis. They promote precision maintenance practices and use PdM technologies to evaluate the quality of repairs and installations.

The MMC technician must interact with maintenance, operations, engineers, and other groups within the business unit, as well as outside vendors. It is important the technician understands the general workings of these other groups. This role impacts the immediate daily operation and maintenance of equipment. Knowledge gained in this role at KUCC can be shared on a global level.

Reporting to the Specialist - Control Systems, Mineral Integration, you will:

o Safely collect, analyze and report on the general health of the assets based on PdM data.

o Ensure work activities are in compliance with all applicable MSHA, KUC and Rio Tinto safety regulations and policies.

o Performs inspections, data interpretation and reporting for the following:

  • VIMs analysis
  • VHMS analysis
  • Cense analysis
  • TCI analysis
  • PLM analysis
o Assists MMC Engineers/Specialists/Supervisors on team continuous improvement projects

o Assists IS&T technicians during MMC system maintenance, installation, and monitoring tasks.

o Recommend repairs based on PdM data.

o Acts as MMC team specialist for haul truck operation and maintenance activities.

o Creates notifications in SAP when a need for maintenance has been identified.

o Evaluates the quality of repairs and installations and provides feedback.

o Daily monitoring of selected equipment process conditions, reporting unusual conditions and determining relations between process conditions and equipment failures.

o Functions as an MMC Supervisor Facilitator – covering Supervisor MineCare and Dispatch daily tasks and functions as requested (vacation, training, meeting coverage)

Functions as an MMC Engineer/Specialist Facilitator – assisting with daily code corrections and data validation as requested.

o Daily Operational and maintenance problem solving skills.

o Performs inspections, data interpretation and reporting for the following:

  • VIMs analysis
  • VHMS analysis
  • Cense analysis
  • TCI analysis
  • PLM analysis
About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:
College/University Education:
Associate Degree in Engineering or related field or five years of maintenance experience preferred.

Other Qualifications:
Must have a strong, demonstrated commitment to safety; excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are required.
High level of knowledge of equipment maintenance and operating requirements with mechanical/electrical troubleshooting experience with heavy equipment.
Must demonstrate a style of participative problem solving, project implementation and continuous improvement.
Quick comprehension of maintenance topics. Computer knowledge with ability to expand capabilities (Excel, Modular, Truck Systems, some Database).
Understanding of basic equipment operation for quick comprehension of PdM techniques.

Desirable experience with SAP, VIMs, VHMS, Cense, TCI, PLM, Excel, MineCare, Dispatch software.

Desirable training/experience include; Balmert Safety Training.
