Catholic Leadership Institute (CLI) provides bishops, priests, deacons and lay persons in the Roman Catholic Church with world-class, pastoral leadership formation and consulting services that strengthen their confidence and competence in ministry, enabling them to articulate a vision for their local church, to call forth the gifts of those they lead, and to create more vibrant faith communities rooted in Jesus Christ.

Position Summary:

Catholic Leadership Institute seeks to scale its impact and service to the Church exponentially in the next five years and sees technology as an essential element to this growth in service. The Chief Technology Officer is an innovator, strategist, and developer, employing technology to support the mission of Catholic Leadership Institute. Working closely across all areas of the organization, the CTO is responsible for envisioning and developing technology solutions to enable and scale CLI services while ensuring we are employing “best practices” and the most efficient methods of technology to deliver on our mission. He/She will be responsible for the full implementation of the technology strategy as well as leadership and management of partnerships and/or vendor relationships. The CTO will have a mix of responsibilities requiring both a highly strategic mindset and project management skillset to serve well within a very entrepreneurial environment. This position is located in Wayne, PA. Travel is required as necessary.

Specifically, the Chief Technology Officer will:

  • Establish the company’s technology vision and leads all aspects of the company’s technological development.
  • Develop innovative technology solutions that support our leadership formation and consulting services as well future cloud based/social media platforms for community outreach and collaboration
  • Demonstrate accountability and initiative in the management of multi-issue workloads and take a pro-active role in apprising project progress.
  • Create and/or implement tools that provide insight and knowledge into CLI’s business performance.
  • Conduct research, trade studies, and risk assessments on the cost-effective application of leading edge technologies to meet CLI program initiatives
  • Develop detailed budgets, project plans, and schedules for proposed technology initiatives
  • Manage relationships and coordinate work with staff, vendors, and/or contractors.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a quantitative discipline is highly desirable (CS, MIS or DSS degree preferred). Graduate degree in a related field is desired.
  • Minimum 5 to 12 years’ experience in managing Business Intelligence and Analytics applications
  • Minimum 5 to 12 years’ or equivalent experience in participating and leading the design, development, architecture of technology platforms for Business Intelligence and Data Analytics solutions
  • Minimum 5 to 12 years or equivalent of experience architecting analytic tools with SQL Server tools, working extensively with complex databases and warehouses preferred.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in the development of web and cloud based data analytics solutions with demonstrated experience in Amazon Web Services (or equivalent), SQL/NOSQL databases, and Business Intelligence and Visualization tools
  • Experience in working in an agile development including building and managing remote SCRUM teams
  • Experience designing and developing analytical applications
  • Proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server
  • Experience in working with demographic and GIS systems/databases are a plus.
  • Experience with advanced Analytics/Reporting tools such as WebFocus, Tableau, Power BI, or comparable platforms
  • Proficiency in Excel software for the benefit of data analysis

Critical Qualifications/Skills:

  • Demonstrated commitment to the mission of the Roman Catholic Church and familiarity with diocesan and parish structures and a thorough understanding of Catholic parish life and ministry.
  • History of leading small technology driven teams to meet production timelines, and deliver the right solution on time and within budget.
  • Possesses a high degree of initiative, flexibility, and collaboration to achieve objectives and meet demands.
  • Possesses the ability to work in the tactical world (get things done today) but also with a stated and clearly defined plan for the strategic plan (for the future).
  • Exhibits excellent written, verbal and public speaking skills including communicating technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to adeptly manage and navigate in anentrepreneurial environment
  • Must be a team player, possess high energy level, and be a self-starter.

VISION AND PLAN

Prayerfully discern, create, and implement a technology vision and plan for Catholic Leadership Institute to serve and support the leadership development needs of the Roman Catholic Church.

CLIENT FOCUS

Align technology with business needs to develop tools to increase CLI reach; streamline business processes; increase competitive advantage; and improve productivity through continuously analyzing complex business needs presented by the staff and/or clients and implementing viable technical solutions.

FINANCIAL

Develop annual operating and capital budget incorporating all necessary components of the IT strategic plan within the constraints of the organizational budget. Ensure that expenditures are necessary and aligned with organizational priorities.

IT INFRASTRUCTURE

Develop enterprise standards and technology architecture, technology evaluation, and manage strategic vendor relationships including responsibility for securing and protecting corporate data against loss or attack by computer viruses or other external threats; business continuity plans; overall direction and management of all modes of communications: network, audiovisual, video conferencing.
