The Media Relations Specialist is responsible for positioning Pier 1 as the leading home décor and trend resource in local and regional markets across the US. This role also manages all media inquiries, coordinates interviews, develops grand opening strategies and plans special events when needed. Other duties include development of media materials and creating analytic reports to shape future department strategies and activities.

Duties & Responsibilities
Promote and position Pier 1 Imports as the leading home décor and trend resource at the local/regional level. Develop clearly defined media plan, including story ideas, pitches and editorial calendar. Develop relationships and manage contact between field associates and media for coordination of interviews, merchandise loans, and image requests. Provide media training and other guidance for local Pier 1 spokespeople.
Develop strategies for supporting new store openings and closings, including local events, troubled-market partnerships and traffic-driving events. Serve as PR project manager for all new store openings. Provide strategic guidance and manage media relations related to store openings and other local media inquiries. Provide post-event evaluation and analysis of executed strategies and tactics.
Assist PR Manager with national media relations, issues management, event execution and other needs that arise. Serve as project manager for selected components of larger seasonal PR campaigns. Actively participate in ideation sessions and providing feedback on key learnings.
Using media monitoring tools, develop analytics reports and recaps. Create and maintain schedule of updated reports based on campaigns, goals and objectives. Assist with development of monthly media coverage report. Manage all media clippings.
Develop media materials including press releases, fact sheets and pitches. Develop and maintain all media lists. Serve as project manager for selected PR collateral. Assist with press kit mailings as needed.
Education & Experience
4-year college degree required
Microsoft Office
Internet Research Skills
AP Writing Style
Working knowledge of media industry and media measurement tools (Cision, Vocus)
3-5 years in professional work environment
Experience with project management
Organization skills a must
Experience in writing press releases and media advisories
Agency experience required
