Senior Telecommunications Engineer/Installation Technician

A great International short term and long-term opportunity for a Telecommunications Technician to support requirements to install a fully functional NSDN Trucking RF/Microwave Communications Network. This position requires on-site, in-country performance for the duration of the contract.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The Telecommunications Engineer will be part of a team traveling to various sites in-country to conduct microwave and radio systems siting, installation, and commissioning support on a wide range of mobile and permanent Kenwood radio systems. The position also requires assisting with solar power and auxiliary power systems related work. Work will include, but is not limited to, assisting the team in installing poles, antenna mounts; installing and aligning antennas; installing wireless hardware; conducting tests as needed; and climbing towers and base stations at heights over 40 ft.

The primary responsibility of the Telecommunications Engineer will be to install, maintain, and operate wired, wireless, and microwave telecommunications equipment and systems. Under the direction of the Team Lead, the Telecommunications Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Support Installation/De-installation of transmission lines, connectors, antenna and accessories; and perform maintenance on tower equipment
  • Recognize and perform duties within OSHA safety guidelines as well as all applicable safety laws and policies
  • Handle transportation of equipment to work site and support hoisting of equipment to the top of the tower
  • Provide assistance as required to ensure quality service at several tower and base station installation sites
  • Work effectively both individually and with other crew members
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned by site lead
  • Travel up to 100% (This is an international Deployment)

Working in this region of the world will require walking on uneven ground, exposure to dust, exposure to noise, extremes in temperature or humidity, and potential work at heights. Work requires intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting. Hand manipulation is required for simple grasping, pushing and pulling, and fine manipulation.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a tower climber required
  • ComTrain or equivalent certification in Tower Climbing Safety and Rescue required
  • Clearance of background, drug screen and proof of valid driver's license required
  • Ability to climb, at least, a 250' telecommunications tower required
  • Ability to work on a rooftop
  • Availability to work long hours (12+) to include Saturdays, Sundays, some holidays, and evenings if required

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Technical knowledge and basic troubleshooting experience of wireless telecommunications
  • Kenwood Systems knowledge and experience a big Plus
  • Anritsu, PIM and CPR/First Aid certifications
  • Excel, Word and Outlook Microsoft experience
