Warehouse Associate Lead
This Job Description includes activities assigned specifically to Central Valley Eggs's Warehouse Associate Lead position. All GMPs and SOPs should be followed in conjunction with all Food Safety and Food Quality requirements and guidelines. Warehouse Associate Lead will be responsible for ensuring that the following tasks are performed in a timely manner. (There may be some instances where Managers and/or Senior Management may ask for additional tasks to be performed outside of the standard “job description” of this position.)
Caution
Safety of guards and safety interlock switches furnished as standard equipment for the machine are for your protection. Do not attempt to operate the machine without making sure that all guards are properly installed. Do not bypass safety interlock switches do not reach under guards. Any of these practices will expose you to danger and will result in severe injury to yourself and others. Report safety hazards to your supervisor immediately. The use of Personal Protection is required and mandatory. Safety is every employee’s responsibility.
All products stored in the cooler, loaded onto trailers, and received from outside sources must be inspected, logged, and deemed in good condition. All egg products and packaging should not be damaged in any way.
Check the load space of the delivery vehicle and ensure that it is free of visible contaminants and does not contain incompatible products.
Loaders – NEVER enter a truck or trailer with a forklift or pallet jack until you have verified that the heels are chocked!! This is your responsibility!!
Definition: Stores the right amount of materials, goods, and products in the right location to feed the business’s operational and customer demand.
Overall Purpose of the Role: Responsible for the operation of a section within the Warehouse function. Supporting the Management Team with the day-to-day operation of the warehouse, responsible for a group of warehouse associates, and ensuring an efficient warehouse operation in achieving business targets. Provide line management to the team, coordinating their workloads, providing support to ensure that the team delivers, monitoring any issues, and ensuring production targets, KPIs, and quality standards are met to meet the customer's requirements. Develop the team by focusing on individual performance and support requirements to achieve high standards, fostering a safe work culture. Work under general supervision, reviewed by Management. Decisions and results have an impact on the function and its success. Performance affects the function’s image.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
General and Task Management
o Run an efficient warehouse operation that is able to fulfill operational and customer demand and meet set targets
o Ensure the delivery of materials to production lines in accordance with production schedules
o Train new Warehouse operatives within the area of responsibility
o Ensure inventories in the area of responsibility are accurate
o Ensure stock movements are recorded accurately
o Ensure that any computerized or automated systems are accurate and up to date
o Identify any systems improvements and make recommendations for change
o Where possible resolve any issues or problems which occur in the warehouse. Where appropriate elevate the issue to a more senior level
o Produce regular reports and statistics as and when required
o Review ways to reduce waste
o Assist in planning future capacity requirements
o Ensure that health and safety meet the required standards and carry out risk assessments
o Ensure that all lifting and maneuvering of products and materials is carried out in accordance with manual handling procedures
o Ensure hazardous materials are stored in accordance with requirements
o Ensure that vehicles, machinery, and equipment are well maintained and fit for purpose
o Maintain high standards of security in the warehouse
o Ensure staff comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations and work safely to protect themselves and others in the warehouse environment
o Ensure a clean and tidy working environment to aid operational efficiency
o Ensure that both the Run Sheet and the Set-Up Sheet are printed and ready for the next day’s production.
o Check that Run Sheets are available for the appropriate personnel.
o Ensure that the Processing Plant Laborer has a copy of the Run Sheet first thing each morning
o Check cooler inventory, see what is on hand, and check orders for what is needed for the day.
o Warehouse Associate Lead must check email for inter-company orders that may arise.
o Make a visual inspection of all egg products and ensure packaging is not damaged.
o Check use-by dates and/or lot #s of all products. Perform a visual inspection of all products on the floor, verify labeling information, and check for accuracy
o 2 hours before the completion of running eggs, the Warehouse Associate Lead must check Cooler Inventory to ensure the accuracy of the completed orders ( if necessary communicate the shortages)
o The Warehouse Associate Lead focuses on orders, by checking the run sheet at periodic times throughout the day. Makes date changes (according to state) and product changes according to the run sheet, and follows up by notifying de-nesters, packers, stackers, and USDA graders of the changes.
o Ensures labels are stocked to the correct packing lanes. Dates are everyone’s responsibility.
o Verify and log all incoming or outgoing Raw Materials & Packaging Materials.
o Verify that all trailers are free of visible contaminants and do not contain incompatible products.
o Verify and log dates or lot #s of all raw materials & packaging materials.
o Record & Log Traceability information for all goods received on all “incoming records”.
o Unload all trailers in a timely manner.
o Unload and transfer any Chemicals delivered to the appropriate Chemical Storage area. PPE is required.
o Dry Goods storage areas shall be cleaned, and all logs are current and up to date.
o Material is stored off the floor, appropriately covered with plastic, and stored on pallets or containers that prevent cross-contamination.
o Dry Storage inventory is used on a First in First out (FIFO) basis; Recycling Materials shall be separated and clearly labeled.
o Ensure that all Recycling Bales are loaded onto the appropriate trailer and logged onto the loading sheet.
o 18” security barrier shall be clean and free of any packaging materials, and the yellow line must be clearly visible.
o Responsible for unloading trucks in a timely manner.
o Communicates with the front office of incoming trucks to be unloaded and keep an accurate count while unloading.
o Ensures that all material in the dry storage is covered in order to prevent cross-contamination.
o Assist the runner and order runner in supplying material to the processing area.
o Keep an accurate count of dry storage inventory and is responsible for the area's cleanliness and keeping all lanes clear for safe access in and out of this area.
Cooler and Loading
o Check use-by dates and/or lot #s of all products. Perform a visual inspection of all products received
o Record & Log Traceability (lot #’s and/or Julian dates along with all customer information) for all goods loaded and/or received on all HACCP documents.
o Load and unload all trailers in a timely manner.
o Rotate all products that have lot #s or sell-by dates.
o While loading and unloading products, verify labeling information and check for accuracy
o Prior to unloading products, ensure that the area that the product will be unloaded to is safe and free of any contaminates.
o Ensure that all product storage areas are cleaned, and all cleaning logs are current and up to date.
o Ensure that all products are stored off the floor, appropriately packaged, and stored on pallets or containers that prevent cross-contamination.
o Ensure that all stock is used on a First in First out (FIFO) basis
o Verify Cooler Temperature and document every hour- (HACCP)
o Check and verify trailer for cleanliness- LE trailers must be freshly washed
o All incoming shell eggs must be inspected for rodents, insects, or tampering
o If signs of rodents, insects, or tampering are visible product could be refused.
o All incoming loads must be documented in the Incoming Shell Egg Product Record.
o Check, verify, and document refer temperatures (Reefer Temperature)
o All Liquid Egg reefer trailers must maintain 40 degrees or lower.
o All Shell Egg reefer trailers must maintain 45 degrees or lower.
Failure to comply will result in product refusal. All incoming reefer temperatures must be recorded in the Incoming Shell Egg Product Record.
Packaging Material
o All bundles and cubes must be inspected for tears or holes.
o If tampering is evident, the manufacturer will be notified and asked if holes and tears were made due to loading to determine that cubes or bundles were not tampered with. If it is determined that cubes or bundles were tampered with, the product would be disposed of. If the sign of rodents is visible, the manufacturer and the carrier would be notified of the problem. The problem would be investigated to determine if the manufacturer or carrier caused the problem. If packaging material was exposed to signs of rodents, the product would be refused or destroyed.
o All incoming packaging must be stored in original protective wrapping or containers and be recorded in the Incoming Shell Egg Product Record.
o Visual inspection of all light fixtures means you will need to inform Maintenance if a light needs to be replaced.
o Cleaning and regulatory dusting and removal of cobwebs, flies, or any other contaminates in the Dry Storage area.
o Inedible containers must be clean and free of flies prior to entering Dry Storage.
o Maintain the removal of all broken pallets in the dry storage area.
o Perform Daily Safety Checks of all Equipment following the Safety Checklist
Corrective Actions
o All incoming loads that do not adhere to critical limits must be documented in the Incoming Corrective Action Record.
o All incoming shell egg loads that do not adhere to critical limits must be inspected.
§ If the deviation is a cause of inadequate reefer temperature settings beyond normal loading and unloading deviations, then loads will be turned away.
Store returns and red tag products.
o All incoming product returns or red tag products must be logged on the Store return log sheet and filled out accurately with lot numbers, plant numbers, and reasons for returns. Then log the product in the receiving log.
o Product return log must be turned in to your manager then must communicate with USDA by e-mail about the incoming product returns. Product returns or red tags must be placed only in the USDA holding area indicated by the assigned location. Anything stored in this area must be documented on the disposition log.
o Recycling Materials are separated and clearly labeled. At the end of each shift, transfer and separate all recycling materials to the appropriate bins in Dry Storage.
o 18” security barrier is clear of any product, and the yellow line is clearly visible.
o Make sure the floor is clean and free of debris, all light fixtures are working, and there are not any broken fixtures.
o Remove any cobwebs, flies, or other contaminates in the Cooler and all inedible containers are cleared from the cooler.
o Warehouse Associates are responsible for unloading trucks in a timely manner.
o Communicates with the front office of incoming trucks to be unloaded and keep an accurate count while loading and unloading.
o Helps keep an accurate count and cooler inventory.
o Responsible for the area's cleanliness and keeping all lanes clear for safe access in and out of this area.
All Cooler Staff will have certification in Stand-up Forklifts, regular Forklifts, and Pallet Jacks. The Safety Advisor will certify the staff on all appropriate equipment.
People Management
o Manage time and attendance for warehouse associates within the area of responsibility and support supervisor with people management issues
o Communicate with staff on a regular basis to make them aware of priorities, targets, and operational requirements
o Support with recruitment and training staff as well as monitor performance and progress to ensure targets are met
o Report progress updates, key achievements, and any concerns to the Controller

Qualifications and Experience Levels:
o Proven experience as a Warehouse Associate Lead with experience in supervising and motivating a team
o A good working knowledge of health and safety and security requirements
o Knowledge and understanding of lean techniques may be advantageous
o Forklift experience and certification may be required
