The SysOps Engineer – Backup & Recovery is responsible for the set-up, administration, monitoring, and issue remediation of the backup architecture and processes to ensure business continuity. The role also performs disaster recovery of business critical applications and infrastructure. The SysOps Engineer – Backup & Recovery reports to the Sr. Manager of Schwarz IT Services.

Essential Functions

Install, configure, and monitor mission centric 24x7 enterprise operations and data center infrastructure
Design, implement, and manage the enterprise-level backup and recovery infrastructure
Plan and direct migration projects of managed environments
Closely collaborate with other teams (i.e. Storage, Database, Server, Network) to ensure efficient processes
Perform disaster recovery for various systems
Troubleshoot incidents and problems
Perform other duties as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Deep understanding of enterprise Backup & Recovery implementations
Deep understanding for state of the art Backup & Recovery software solutions (i.e. Veritas NetBackup, HPE Data Protector)
Deep understanding for state of the art Backup & Recovery hardware solutions (i.e. Quantum DXI, Veritas NetBackup Appliances, Quantum Scalar Tape Libraries, HP MSL Tape Libraries)
Deep understanding of enterprise backup technologies like online DB backups (Oracle, MSSQL, SAP HANA, IBM Domino) and other APIs (i.e. VMware VADP, Netapp NDMP)
Deep understanding of basic network technologies (i.e. VLANs, Subnets, VLAN Interfaces, NIC Bonding)
Deep understanding of IT-infrastructure concepts
Proven analytical and problem-solving skills
Strong technical documentation skills
Ability to work in a fast paced, demanding environment
Ability to work in a team environment

Required Education, Certifications/ Licenses, Related Experience

BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related field
3+ years of direct experience

Physical Job Requirements

This position requires the ability to remain in a stationary position (standing and/or seated) all of the time
The person in this position may need to move about the store(s), distribution center(s), warehouse(s), and/or corporate office(s) more than half the time
The person in this position must be able to maneuver (lift, move, carry, slide, etc.) less than 15 lbs.
This position operates machinery and/or equipment that requires the constant use of hands/fingers/wrists (ex: typing, sweeping) all of the time
This position requires the ability to spend all of the time viewing computer monitors
The person in this position must be able to identify and distinguish between colors more than half the time

Travel Requirements

This position commutes between regional offices/distribution centers less than 25% of the time within a day
This position requires overnight domestic travel less than 25% of the time
This position requires overnight international travel less than 25% of the time
Anticipated travel will be by car, air, and/or train
