Tricida, Inc., is a pharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of its drug candidate, veverimer (also known as TRC101), a non-absorbed, orally-administered polymer designed to treat metabolic acidosis in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Metabolic acidosis is a chronic condition commonly caused by CKD that is believed to accelerate the progression of CKD, increase the risk of muscle wasting and cause the loss of bone density.
Tricida’s New Drug Application (NDA) for veverimer is currently under review by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The FDA has assigned a Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA) goal date of August 22, 2020.*
Tricida was founded in August 2013 by a seasoned management team that has extensive experience in the development and commercialization of therapeutics, with substantial expertise in developing polymers for the treatment of kidney-related diseases.
We are currently seeking a qualified, highly motivated, experienced individual for the position of Executive Director, Government Affairs & Policy reporting to the VP Market Access. The Executive Director, Government Affairs & Policy is responsible for the development and executing of comprehensive government affairs strategies to advance Tricida’s interest with CMS/CMMI and legislators on a federal and state basis. This role will require significant cross functional responsibilities within other Market Access departments, Legal, Corporate Affairs, Sales, and other key functions.
Develop proactive strategic and tactical plans to engage with key decision makers to shape CMS regulations and federal legislations that improves access to Tricida’s product(s)
Develop effective relationships on behalf of Tricida with key HHS/CMS/CMMI officials, key policy decision makers, advocacy organizations and opinion leaders resulting in meaningful partnerships focused on patient benefit
Coordinating and leading Tricida meetings with HHS, as well as Federal and State officials
Liaison with coalitions and advocacy groups that support protecting patient’s access to innovative therapies
Continuous monitoring and assessing of CMS regulations, as well as Federal and State policies, to determine any impact on Tricida
Serve as the internal expert on the healthcare policy environment to help executive team identify threats and opportunities for Tricida
Partnering with Forecasting to incorporate policy changes into Forecasting assumptions
Lead reimbursement and coverage related initiatives with external stakeholders including pursuing new CPTs, USP classification, etc
Overseeing Government Affairs partner agency
EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
12+ years’ experience in Federal Government Affairs. Policy and nephrology experiences are plus
Expertise in both State and Federal Government levels
Ability to connect key business needs and profit drivers to public policy and regulations to advance business interests and reputation of Tricida
Holistic view of the impact of CMS regulations, federal and state politics and health policy
Thorough knowledge of domestic government policies that impact pharmaceutical companies
Thorough knowledge on how CMS/CMMI and the federal government makes decisions
Excellent judgment to make decisions on complex business and healthcare policy issues, and act based on what is in the best interest of the company and patients
Strong business acumen and ability to manage multiple priorities, processes, timelines and expectations of multiple stakeholder groups
Demonstrated ability to be viewed as trustworthy and credible and can relate complex information in a concise format, both verbally and written, to senior executives.
Combination of analytical, organizational and interpersonal skills
Strong problem-solving skills
Bachelor's degree required. JD, MPP or MPH preferred
This position is field based with willing to travel in the US up to 50%
