Fruit of the Loom, an independent, wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Inc. & leading international basic apparel company, has an immediate opening for an Business Data Analyst-Intermediate at its Corporate Office in Bowling Green, KY. The primary responsibility of the Intermediate Business Data Analyst is to collaborate with business leaders to answer challenging business questions that can help us gain a competitive advantage by using data mining techniques, optimization methods, data visualization, pattern detection, and/or statistical analysis across complex hierarchies with multiple data sources. This includes understanding the business context around the questions that do not have a known or defined answer.
The Intermediate Business Data Analyst must be able to think strategically in a fast-paced environment to execute data-driven, operational strategies that make definitive improvements. The Intermediate Business Data Analyst will need to understand and assess the expected qualification and assurance of the information in support of the defined requirements. The Intermediate Business Data Analyst must validate his/her findings and presents back their findings in a way that can be easily understood by their business counterparts. The Intermediate Business Data Analyst must follow through on projects and keep in touch with the business users to provide needed updates or recommendations
Work with the business stakeholders to identify what the business requirements are and the expected outcome. Model and frame business scenarios that are meaningful and which impact critical business processes and/or decisions. Identify what data is available and relevant, including internal and external data sources and leveraging new data collection processes such as Geographic Information systems or text analytics.
Work in iterative processes with the business and validate findings. For example, validate discovered correlations across data with the business. Discovered findings can appear counter intuitive. Expose the rationale to their findings in easy to understand terms for the business. Be prepared to present back results that contradict common belief. Suggest ongoing improvements to methods and algorithms that lead to findings, including new information.
Direct and guide junior business analysts in projects and strategies that meet business needs. Work with the business to develop project objectives, project plans, and timelines that ensure quality solutions are delivered on time.
Educate the organization both from IT and the business perspectives on these new approaches, such as testing hypotheses and statistical validation of results.
BS or MS in Computer Science, Business Informatics, Statistics or Mathematics or related field, or equivalent years of professional experience
Strong analytical and problem solving skills required.
Programming knowledge and skills, including Hadoop MapReduce or other big data frameworks, Java, statistical modeling (i.e. R, STATA, Weka, Python), SQL and depending on the scope of the project, text mining or machine learning.
Project management skills required, including a thorough understanding of how to interpret and prioritize customer business needs and translate them into application and operational requirements.
Ability to come up with solutions to loosely defined business problems by leveraging pattern detection over potentially large datasets.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group, executives, managers, and subject matter experts.
Basic understanding of the consumer packaged goods or retail from sales to marketing to category management and forecasting.
Basic understanding of supply chain operations including replenishment and inventory management.
Working knowledge of statistical forecasting concepts (i.e. decomposition, linear regression, exponential smoothing) and software (i.e. R, STATA, Weka, Python).
Data visualization experience using PowerBI, Tableau, Qlikview, or similar technology
Knowledge of SQL and data modeling
2-5 years of experience with data and statistical analysis, with mathematical modeling skills
