Answering to the Safety Health and Environmental Manager, the Intern will assist the Safety Manager as he insures the company remains compliant with Federal, State and local regulations. He/she will assist in the development and organizational implementation of safety, health, and environmental programs. The intern will investigate and analyze accident/near misses for root cause and participate in establishing preventative and corrective measures.
This position requires that the employee perform all duties as assigned by the Safety Manager including the following:
Investigate incidents/accidents for root cause, recommending corrective action for implementation.
Develop/revise safety, health, and environmental programs, training programs and documentation forms.
Create inspection audit process to identify and correct potential hazards.
Participate in the creation and administration of an internal safety audit process.
Provide leadership and support to site safety committees.
Document, monitors and organize the company SDS data base.
Assist with annual permitting for company environmental concerns.
Assist with OSHA 300 logs and Workers’ Compensation claims.
Examine plans, specifications of new machinery and equipment; design for safety issues and compliance, in addition to suggesting protective equipment or safety devices for such machines and equipment in assisting in the design machines and plant equipment to eliminate safety, health, and environmental hazards in accordance with all OSHA. NFPA, NEC, ANSI, guidelines, etc.
Participate in formal on-site safety/health/environmental inspections at company facilities.
Assist with documenting and monitoring the company's material handling (PIV) database.
Assist with documenting and monitoring the company facilities management database.
Regular and punctual attendance is an essential function of this job, work weekends, and holidays when necessary.
Must consistently be a safety leader by adhering to all safety rules and regulations as set forth company policy.
Exhibit team building by performing other duties as requested by any member of ECMD Management.
Strong organizational skills. Eagerness to learn and positive attitude.
Ability to effectively communicate at all levels.
Good computer skills. Ability to use inhouse software as well as MS Office.
Work at times with little direction.
Wear hearing protection, safety glasses and safety shoes or other required personal protective equipment as required.
Occasional overnight travel as required.
Self-motivation and self-direction is a must.
Valid and appropriate driver’s license and an acceptable driving record.
