Down East Turf Farm, a sod company located in Kennebunkport ME, is currently seeking to hire a motivated Full Time Sod Farm Equipment Operator.
The Sod Farm Equipment Operator safely operates and maintains all farm machinery needed to complete tasks on a daily basis. This position will specifically address the maintaining, harvesting and palletization of sod with automated harvesters and general farm equipment.

Position Responsibilities:
- Safely operate all sod/farm machinery on a daily basis.
- Report safety issues and concerns to management in a timely manner.
- Responsible for general machine maintenance such as greasing, changing blades, checking chain tensions, checking tire pressures, checking for worn bearings, checking fluid levels etc.
- Keep equipment clean inside and out
- Keeps the fields neat, clean and orderly and free of debris allowing for safe operation of equipment.
- Stages sod neatly in an accessible area with forklift.
- Must maintain a neat and clean working area regardless of location/machine.
Production
- Ability to make judgment calls on what to adjust on the machine during mowing to maintain down East Turf quality standards.
- Appropriately sprays chemicals as directed.
- Appropriately spreads fertilizer as directed.
- Helps diagnose equipment issues and determine appropriate maintenance work.
Harvest
- Maintains quality standards set by Down East Turf to ensure all pallets are stacked neatly, all rolls are of good quality.
- Ability to make judgment calls on what to adjust on the machine (cutting depth, down pressure, conveyor speed) during harvest to maintain Down East Turf quality standards.
- Works with Management to ensure quality sod during the harvest process and ensures all sod going on the pallet meets quality standards.
Position Requirements:
- experience in a similar field preferred.
- Valid State Driver’s License with clean driving record.
- Pesticide License Preferred
- Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the profession.
- Must demonstrate ability to be a team player and build positive working relationships with others.
- Ability to communicate equipment issues and understand job assignments.
- Ability to discern what issues need to be brought to upper management.
- Must have the ability to complete tasks properly with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work flexible hours to include, but not limited to, early AM/PM, nights and weekends and hours that could fluctuate day-to-day.
- Ability to work in adverse weather conditions required.
- Ability to sit, climb and balance as well as bend and kneel frequently.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds or more occasionally. Twisting with weight as needed.
- Manual dexterity, coordination and constant movement and use of limbs required.
