What We Do:
The Rapid City Parks and Recreation Department is responsible for beautifying, operating and maintaining park and recreation assets (parks, trails and recreation facilities) as well as implementing year round recreation programs for all ages. The Parks Division maintains city park systems throughout the community including irrigation systems; maintains city greenhouse which provides flora and fauna planted throughout the park system, and maintains fleet of department vehicles and equipment.

About Our Job:
The Parks Maintenance role maintains City-owned parks and public areas.
Job duties may include (but are not limited to):
Maintains parks, cemetery, and recreation areas by operating hand and power tools to cut and prune trees, shrubs & plants; edge flower beds; install fence; install and repair irrigation systems; remove snow; prepare graves for burial; rake leaves, wood chips; set concrete forms; place and finish concrete; use motorized equipment such as mowers, tractors and attachments, sweepers, snow blowers, , trencher, air compressor, tamper, jackhammer, dump trucks, garbage trucks, and pickup trucks. Operates tree spade, chain saw and brush chipper.
Repairs and remodels structures such as buildings, fences, arbors and playground equipment by using hand and power tools.
Landscapes parks by planting trees and laying rock and sod.
Performs park custodial duties such as cleaning restrooms and picnic shelters, and collecting trash.
