Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. (BPMI) is seeking a finance and accounting intern for the summer of 2020.
BPMI's finance and accounting intern may assist with any of the following functions:
Perform accounting and finance functions to support ongoing financial operations. This includes tasks such as processing of transactions, recording cost allocations and distributions, reconciling data, performing variance analyses, obtaining and verifying financial forecasts, and preparing financial statements.
Assist with the monthly general ledger close, including recording entries in Oracle Financials, reconciling balance sheet accounts, and preparing necessary financial reports for various stakeholders across the organization as well as the corporate parent.
Analyze, audit, reconcile, and resolve payroll processing and employee payroll issues. Ensure smooth processing of the bi-monthly payroll cycle and ensure reporting and payments are compliant with company policy and generally accepted accounting principles. Review submissions to ensure they are complete and accurate. Communicate with the appropriate personal and benefit providers as necessary to resolve issues and problems.
Prepare various financial reports, internal control reports, and other reports as requested by management.
Review and verify accuracy of entries and accounting classifications, summarize key areas of concern, and highlight problems to present to management.
Prepare responses to requests from internal customers, Government personnel, and auditors for review by more senior financial analysts or management prior to delivery to the appropriate recipient. Perform peer reviews of products as requested.
Learn and understand the products and processes of the accounting and finance functions within the Naval Reactors Program. Apply lessons learned from previous knowledge and experience to financial operations and suggest improvements to management as appropriate.
Handle company-sensitive, business-sensitive, personal private, and other information in an appropriate manner with due respect for need- to-know rules and privacy concerns.
Enrolled in an undergraduate program in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, Management, or equivalent from an accredited college or university with a minimum of two years completed by May 2020.
Minimum GPA of 3.0 is preferred.
Must be able to articulate basic accounting knowledge.
Must be a U.S. citizen due to government security clearance requirements.
In order to work at BPMI, applicants must complete a Federal background investigation and be granted a security clearance.
