Full Job Description
The Materials Engineering Department provides materials and process expertise to support manufacturing processes, failure analysis, new process development, and materials selection and design.
This position is within the Materials Engineering Chemical and Mechanical Analysis Section and will require interaction with senior personnel, manufacturing engineers and operators, and chemical / material suppliers. Activities may include chemical recertifications, lot acceptance testing, material requalification testing, chemical and/or mechanical analysis, failure analysis support, support to manufacturing processes, and material design support. This position will focus on supporting the circuit card assembly area – cleaning processes, cleanliness testing, J-STD-001 requirements and compliance.
This position will require hands-on laboratory work. Typical laboratory skills that may be required include the following:
Sampling for manufacturing processes
Sample preparation for physical and mechanical properties
Minimum of 2 years of hands-on laboratory experience related to chemical and/or mechanical analysis of materials
Knowledge of Microsoft Office(Word, Excel, Powerpoint)
Technical writing skills
Experience working within a manufacturing environment
Working knowledge of military and commercial materials and process specifications.
Knowledge of Surface Mount Technology Assembly (SMTA) processes, circuit card cleanliness test methodology, J-STD-001 requirements for circuit card cleanliness.
Working knowledge of standard test methods (ex. ASTM or ISO)
Knowledge of Six Sigma and statistical techniques
Active DoD Clearance (Secret, Confidential)
Hands-on experience with the operation, application, and interpretation of spectroscopic (FTIR), chromatographic (ion chromatography, GC, GC-MS) and thermal analysis (DSC) techniques
Hands-on experience with wet chemical analysis techniques such as titrations
Good understanding of chemistry of thermoplastics and thermosets
Good interpersonal skills for working in team environment
Required Education (including Major):
BS required in Chemistry, Materials Science/Engineering, Chemical Engineering or other applicable Science, Technology, or Engineering discipline.
