At Issuu, Business Intelligence Analysts partner with Product and Marketing to lead our data-informed decisions. This position will execute a company-wide strategic vision to consistently leverage data, tools, and applications for optimal business processing, adoption of data and critical decision making within Issuu and external partners. It takes an informed view to anticipate new trends and customer needs, and find innovative ways to solve complex challenges as the team implements its internal and external BI initiatives.
While reporting to the Director of BI, this position will be part of a 3-person team focused on driving key strategic decisions throughout Issuu (Product, Marketing, Ad Operations, Business Development, Budgeting etc.) with insightful, data-driven analyses and analytics products. You’ll work on high impact questions like:
- What are the key KPIs that really drive Issuu's health?
- What is valuable content?
- What is the right life cycle for each publisher?
Develop and prove hypotheses that generate critical insights and inform Issuu strategy
Conduct in-depth analysis and develop deep understanding of key value drivers to identify improvement areas and opportunities
Manage the board presentation process & deadlines
Work across the organization to deliver financial forecasts
Communicate the team's insights to the management team
Build robust and highly actionable analytics products (tables, dashboards, algorithms, etc.) that are used every day by Issuu
Help drive the analytical rigor, quality, and culture within all of Issuu
Some travel may be required, depending on the need
Qualifications for the ideal candidate
2+ years in a highly analytical role at a fast growing company (preferably SaaS experience)
Fluent in SQL / Big Query
Team oriented mindset and the ability to work with a wide range of individuals
Strong (English) communication skills:
Has experience clearly explaining complex concepts to people at all levels of an organization and across business and engineering teams
Experience prioritizing requests from many stakeholders
Curious nature and not hesitant in asking questions
Strong statistical foundation with experience using advanced statistical techniques and predictive modeling
The role of BI at Issuu
BI plays a crucial role in ensuring that we are understanding customers through observed behavior. Their core job is to look at aggregate trends and highlight patterns that will increase our understanding of what publishers want through what is working and what is not. This observation and analysis ranges from the macro - is our business returning the results that we need - to the micro - what features are being used and why. They make recommendations of changes that need to be made to achieve desired results and determine what data needs to be collected, how it is defined and how it is reported.
They perform the crucial function of looking at the reality of what people do, not what they say they do.
In addition, the BI team has a duty to gather data for use in Board reports, ensuring that we provide consistent insight into the health of Issuu as a business.
The BI organization
The BI organization will be comprised of three analysts across Copenhagen, Palo Alto and/or Berlin. While the roles are interchangeable, we expect very strong collaboration and sharing of learnings for a collective success. Some travel may be required between the sites, depending on the need.
