The unit secretary provides administrative support to the NYPC Clinical Team. The Unit Secretary will directly communicate with patients and staff to help facilitate patient visits. Responsibilities include scheduling, communicating via phone or email, scanning documents, and other job-related duties.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Greet new and existing patients upon their arrival
Call patient to inform them of upcoming appointments
Field phone calls and emails
Schedule patient appointments, both new and follow-up
Make copies and scan documents
Gather documents (including test results) and complete questionnaires as needed for patients’ procedures/treatments
Facilitate patients completing questionnaires
Communicate with referring providers/offices
Coordinate with NYPC partners and other physicians on patient-related care
Comply with all New York Proton Center policies related to Privacy Rules established under the Health Information Privacy and Portability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)
Perform other job-related duties, as assigned
High school diploma or equivalent degree is required, Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred
Knowledge of medical terminology and outpatient workflows
Oncology or radiation oncology experience, preferred
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Strong computer skills
Excellent organizational skills
Strong attention to detail
This position is a full-time position (37.5 hours/week). The working environment can be considered fast paced at time and requires strong organizational skills. The unit secretary will be required to maintain a high level of professionalism in all patient/visitor interactions.
This position will require some stocking/lifting up to 20-25lbs.
