Wiki Wiki Sandbar Host (Hostess) Job Description:

Responsibilities:

  • Greet incoming and departing guests warmly with a genuine smile and eye contact; escort them to assigned dining area; present menus; announce server’s name
  • Seat guests in either the bar or dining area depending on their preference
  • Professionally answer incoming calls to the restaurant and provide appropriate help
  • Manage server sections rotations and the flow of guests into the Dining and Bar areas
  • Provide accurate wait times to incoming guests as needed and manage wait sheet
  • Tend to special guest needs and requests
  • Observant to guests’ needs throughout dining experience to ensure they receive high quality service (i.e. notice a drink refill is needed while seating another Guest and ensuring the drink is refilled prior to getting back to the door).
  • Help dining room staff by setting and clearing tables
  • Contribute to team effort by thorough communication with service staff, managers, bussers, and food runners.
  • Spot cleaning bathrooms and windows as needed, throw away scattered trash (indoor/outdoor), replenish soap, towels, toilet paper as needed.

Requirements:

  • Must be able to read and memorize menu descriptions and pricing
  • Must be able to articulate clear greetings and farewells to guests, as well as being able to understand and assist guests with their requests
  • Approachable, warm demeanor
  • Must be able to clearly communicate guests’ needs to Servers, Bussers, Managers, Runners
  • Must be able to multi-task in a loud, busy environment in order to answer telephone and respond to guest requests
  • Must be able to walk and stand during entire shift
  • Must be able to reach, bend, stoop and wipe
  • Must be able to understand requests for assistance
  • Must be able to carry trays or supplies (10-30 lbs.)
  • Capability to help out where needed and work as part of a team
  • Desire to provide extraordinary service
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

  • 6 months experience in a full-service restaurant preferred

Food Runner Job Description:

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver food orders from the kitchen to customers’ tables rapidly and accurately
  • Act as the contact point between Front of the House and Back of the House staff
  • Communicate food orders to chefs, paying attention to priorities and special requests (e.g. food allergies)
  • Assist the wait staff with table setting by fetching and placing appropriate tableware, eating utensils and napkins
  • Serve welcome drinks and hors d’oeuvres, upon guests’ arrival
  • Ensure food is served in accordance with safety standards (e.g. proper temperature)
  • Check in with customers and take additional orders or refill water, as needed
  • Remove dirty dishes and utensils
  • Answer guests’ questions about ingredients and menu items
  • Inform restaurant staff about customers’ feedback or requests (e.g. when they ask for the check)
  • Make sure families with young children get kids menus and special silverware sets

Requirements:

  • Experience as a Food Expeditor or similar entry-level role in a restaurant
  • Understanding of hygiene and food safety rules
  • Physical ability and stamina to carry heavy trays and stand for long hours
  • Availability to work various shifts, including weekends
  • Multi-tasking abilities
  • Good oral communication skills
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced work environment
  • Degree in hospitality or restaurant management is a plus
