Medical Director - Center for Genomic Health - AdventHealth
We are looking for a dynamic Medical Director to help lead our Center for Genomic Health program we are starting in Central Florida. Our team is looking to develop a comprehensive genomics program that will engage with patients in a wide variety of specialties and age ranges across the continuum of care. The new physician would hold approximately 50% administrative and 50% clinical time. The scope of this role will begin in our eight-hospital campus system in the greater Orlando area (known as the Central Florida Division – South Region), and eventually expand in the long term into our full system at Advent Health which consists of 28 hospitals in the state and close to 50 hospitals around the country.
The Medical Director for Genomic Health is responsible for providing leadership in three core areas; 1) Program Development 2) Clinical Quality and Performance Improvement 3) Research and Medical Innovation. In order to create an exceptional experience for those we serve, the Medical Director will work closely with the hospital administration, our Central Florida Division leadership, AdventHealth population health services organization (PHSO), and multiple teams of providers in developing strategic and operational plans related to genomics to meet the community and medical staff needs.
Requirements for the position:
Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in Medical Genetics or Genomics
Board certification in Medical Genetics
Current unrestricted Florida Medical License or the ability to obtain an unrestricted Florida Medical License
Preferred experience for the position:
Experience in prior leadership role or program development with a genetics/genomics program
Experience with pediatric or obstetric genetics
Experience with metabolic genetics
One responsibility of the new Medical Director would be to partner with various multidisciplinary programs to develop a metabolic genetics and genomics program at AdventHealth. Our team will include two pediatric medical geneticists and two genetic counselors along with a metabolic dietician. The team will work with a multidisciplinary group of experienced clinicians which includes experts in neurology, gastroenterology, cardiology, genetics, transplant surgery, MFM, general pediatrics, psychology and social work.

AdventHealth Orlando is our 1,364 bed tertiary/quaternary facility with approximately 160 ICU beds. Our Walt Disney Pavilion at AdventHealth for Children is a full service, tertiary children’s hospital with over 200 dedicated pediatric beds, more than 30 peds ICU beds with a dedicated peds CICU, a 102 bed NICU, 17 bed pediatric emergency department and statewide pediatric network and transport system. We started our comprehensive pediatric open heart program in 2012 and have a strong track record of positive outcomes. We also have several key destination programs including our level IV Epilepsy program, the region’s only BMT and solid organ transplants including kidney and liver, and we increased Orlando area NICU beds to 150 total in 2017. Our unparalleled network consists of 28 hospitals across the state with one children’s hospital at the center totals over 20,000 births and several extremely successful pediatric subspecialty programs including outreach clinics. These 28 hospitals refer patients for tertiary and quaternary services to our main location near downtown Orlando. Our newest program has brought pediatric liver transplant services to Central Florida.
