SCAD seeks a Design and Merchandising Coordinator for its Savannah location to aid in the production of SCAD-produced goods for university retail spaces.
In this position, you will assist with creative merchandising requests, developing new products, and executing merchandising initiatives for SCAD-produced goods for the university’s retail outlets, including Art’s, Ex Libris Bookstore, SCAD Atlanta Bookstore, Gryphon, SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film, TAD Café at the SCAD Museum of Art, shopSCAD, and other special initiatives and events as assigned. You will also play a role in developing merchandise for admission and other internal departments, including executive administration, exhibitions, and events. You will analyze consumer demand and buyer satisfaction, ascertaining competitive data to prepare regional and local assessments regarding trends and metrics to identify opportunities for growth. You will work with independent contractors as well as overseas and domestic manufacturers to initiate production of goods, and ship all goods in coordination with the department’s production team.
The ideal candidate has team experience in a fast-paced, high-energy environment, the ability to handle multiple, multi-component projects and deadlines, and extensive knowledge of file preparation for the development/production of goods. The candidate should also have a working knowledge of Adobe CS software, experience in designing and developing functional products, working knowledge of prototype construction methods for a variety of materials and products, and a willingness to learn and utilize a variety of manufacturing processes for the development of college-branded products. Working knowledge of CAD software and ability to assist in the creation of effective, user-friendly retail merchandise schematics is also imperative.
The candidate should also have experience in gathering and evaluating quotes, negotiating and managing jobs, and working with vendors, plus the ability to apply business and management expertise to achieve financial and operational objectives, as well as knowledge and understanding of product management, marketing, and merchandising. Expertise in assortment planning, retail math, and product presentation is preferred. The candidate must be well organized and solution-oriented, must be able to prioritize tasks, and must have excellent communications skills and a professional demeanor.
