Full Time Head Teacher, High School for Fall 2023
Star Academy, a non-profit, non-public school, located in San Rafael, CA, serving students with learning differences in grades 2-post-secondary, is seeking a Full Time Head Teacher for our High School. Star Academy’s mission is to help students with complex learning differences experience academic success through a multisensory approach.
Our students face mild to moderate challenges such as: dyslexia, executive functioning deficits, dyscalculia, auditory processing, dysgraphia, ADHD and Asperger’s. Elementary, middle and high school students all benefit from Star’s calm, nurturing, and supportive environment, which is conducive to learning. High school students earn their high school diploma or certificate of completion and prepare to transition to college and/or other pursuits.
We are seeking a patient, kind and thoughtful educator to work with an assistant teacher in one of our classrooms. Candidates must have the following qualifications:
- Undergraduate college degree.
- Two years of experience working with elementary students with learning differences in an educational setting.
- Knowledge of current Elementary curriculum; Language Arts, Social Studies, Science and Math.
- Strong classroom management skills.
- Strong communication skills.
- Clear California Mild/Moderate Disabilities Credential required and must meet CTC requirements for working with students on the Autism Spectrum.
Duties will include but may not be limited to:
- Case management of students on IEPs and privately funded students.
- Supervision of Assistant Teacher regarding classroom responsibilities, student monitoring and lesson plan implementation.
Star Academy is a WASC accredited private and non-public school.
- Planning, preparing and delivering instructional materials that facilitate a positive and effective learning experience.
- Adapting teaching methods and materials to meet varying student needs and interests.
- Collaborating with specialists and other teachers to provide students with opportunities to observe, question and investigate while practicing a variety of academic and social skills.
- Supervising students during snack break, recess, lunch and transitions.
- Participating in full staff and team meetings.

Contract duration: 203 days, 200 of which are teaching/student days.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $88,000.00 per year
