About the opportunity
SWCA Environmental Consultants is seeking a Wetland Scientist for our Salt Lake City, Utah office. As a member of our Natural Resources team, you will conduct wetlands fieldwork, reporting, and permitting, as well as associated natural resources related tasks.

What you will accomplish
Conducting all aspects of wetland projects including: wetland and waters determination, delineation, permitting, mitigation planning and design, and monitoring
Preparing written documents, including wetland and waters determination and delineation reports
Preparing wetland removal/fill permit applications
Managing projects
Coordinating agency review of wetland permit applications
Assisting with proposal preparation
Collecting other biological studies and writing reports for natural resource assessments
Assisting with the development of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents
Commitment to Salt Lake City office’s core values of integrity, teamwork, and communication
Experience and qualifications for success
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a biological science or closely related field
A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in fieldwork and report preparation in consulting or similar work environment
Project management experience preferred, but not required
Working knowledge of Clean Water Act Section 404 Army Corps of Engineers’ regulation program and Utah Stream Alteration Permit Program
Working knowledge of the Army Corps of Engineers Wetlands Delineation Manual (Environmental Laboratory, 1987), and the Western Mountains, Valleys, and Coast Regional Supplement and/or Arid West Regional Supplement, and field experience with describing soils in the field, Great Basin flora, and wetland hydrology indicators
Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) certification obtained through the Society of Wetland Scientist’s Professional Certification Program preferred, or qualified and willing to become certified
Supplementary experience in other areas of natural resources consulting such as wildlife surveys, botany surveys, and NEPA document preparation is beneficial
Excellent oral, written, and problem-solving skills
Ability to travel as needed for projects including overnight travel for up to one week at a time on a regular basis
