Atlantis University, a prestigious institution known for its commitment to excellence in education invites applications for the position of Academic Advisor for our International Department. This vital role supports the college's mission and vision, ensuring efficient operation of the Academic Advisor's Department, and enhancing our academic community's success.
The University is currently seeking an Academic & Career Advisor. The Academic for the International Department Advisor listens to a prospect’s career aspirations and advises them on the education and experience needed to attain that career. If the prospect doesn’t know what career they are interested in, the advisor may provide a career aptitude test to help with the discovery process. He/she assists students with defining and clarifying their educational and career goals and resolving issues related to academic difficulties.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provides academic and career advisement for students in the following categories: prospect new, transfer, transient, undecided, and those not making satisfactory progress
- Assists students with clarifying their career and academic goals
- Resolves student advisement issues
- Develops and facilitates workshops related to academic advisement, career exploration, transfer process and employability skills
- Participates in scheduled training activities and workshops
- Provides information about graduation and verifies graduation eligibility
- Provides advisement training to faculty and staff
- Provides admission, assessment and registration information
- Participates in recruiting activities
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Respond to communications (e-mail, voice mail) on a daily basis.
- Informs the students about University’s policies and procedures, curricular options and academic program requirements.
- Advises students on course/program selection, including entrance requirements.
- Participates in New Students Orientation.
- Support and participate in University Commencement Ceremonies.
- Performs any special project assigned by the Director or supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Following up with the Support to all at-risk students.
Minimum Requirements
- Master's degree in related field and three (3) years of related experience
- Knowledge of academic advising and career development principles and practices
- Working experience advising students
- Familiarity with the student information system
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with academic departments, faculty, staff, students, and the local community
- Effective communication skills both orally and in writing
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
- Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to establish and maintain effective public relations
- Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evening and weekend assignments
- Ability to interact in a positive manner in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
