This HR Director, will be a business partner for our international commercial leadership team, including the international licensed business and international owned entities. This position will be based in our New York Design Office in midtown Manhattan and requires support to individuals in multiple geographically diverse time zones globally. The Director will be expected to provide direct guidance to the commercial leadership and international business in areas such as talent development and succession planning, global talent acquisition and expatriation, international compliance, and global practices for total rewards. The HR Director will oversee and manage all aspects of the day-to-day human resources function for the commercial franchise team, and support international payroll and HR operations where necessary. This role will provide guidance and recommendations for new and existing international offices in order to maintain best practice, culture consistency and cost-effective measures worldwide. The Director will also be expected to take the lead on new HR organizational initiatives, including HR due diligence for potential acquisitions or joint ventures and execution of all human capital related aspects of a global transaction. The successful candidate will have HR leadership experience in support of franchise, joint venture and company owned international businesses.
Talent Development and Succession
Align the human resources objectives to enable the key business strategies that drive profitable growth
Work to ensure business partners’ goals and strategies are aligned cross-functionally to support growth
Support AEO performance management process and drive proactive career development and feedback
Lead the succession planning and talent management practices for International
Proactively partner with Commercial leadership and AEO Organization Design team to identify and support necessary organizational design needs as the business evolves
Drive proactive associate engagement practices
Partner with the AEO Talent Acquisition team to support recruitment and provide guidance for US and international positions
Partner to develop best in class techniques to refine sourcing and attract highly qualified candidates to support the international team
Supports and manages recruitment efforts and compliance in complex international geographies, including partnership with real estate, legal, tax and commercial teams.
Identify and retain key 3rd party partners to leverage in support of global HR needs
Ensures that international assignees are oriented and on-boarded appropriately
Will serve as the company subject matter expert regarding talent practices of localizing and expatriating (and returning) associates.
Compensation and Benefits
Ensures compliance with all federal and state labor laws and international labor standards related to benefits, policies, reporting, postings, etc.
Collaborates with country office leadership to ensure the organization offers compelling total rewards for existing and new associates and ensures business results via their design
Partner with AEO total rewards team to ensure practices are reviewed and maintained, inclusive of benefit offerings
Partner with AEO Total Rewards team and local HR leaders to effectively manage partnerships with brokers, vendors and consultants
Legal and Compliance
Effectively communicate and maintain adherence to international labor, recruitment, reward and taxation laws to ensure international employment risk and requirements are managed
Partner with country leadership to ensure local associate policies are compliant and proactively aligned with AEO’s values and broader HR policies and procedures
Partners with our local HR leaders and country leadership to navigate and satisfactorily resolve complex matters involving associates
Job and Experience Requirements:
Must have a minimum of 10 years of experience in Human Resources
Experience in global omni-channel retail is preferred
Practical knowledge of employment law in USA, United Kingdom, Asia (Hong Kong, Japan, Mainland China & Hong Kong), Mexico and Canada.
Proven ability to multi-task, problem solve, and prioritize in a fast past environment.
Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to communicate at all levels within an organization in a professional, articulate manner with experience working with multiple levels (C Suite to individual contributor) within an organization.
Must be self-motivated and able to work well independently.
Ability to travel up to 25% and accommodate work hours for multiple time zones.
Strong initiative and solid judgment abilities/skills.
Has experience in and provides due diligence for M&A including appropriate guidance for successful integration, joint venture, license and owned and operated international business models.
Demonstrated proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (especially Word, Excel and PowerPoint), and Global Human Resources technology (time keeping, applicant tracking and sourcing, HRIS).
Must have a Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Human Resources or Business. Master’s Degree preferred.
