The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics at West Virginia University is seeking applications for the position of Director of Creative Services. This position is responsible for overseeing the area of creative services to produce content and materials that highlight the football program and communicate information about the program on a variety of platforms, including, but not limited to print, web, social media and internal team distribution.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Work with the Director of Player Personnel and Recruiting Coordinator(s) to produce creative and innovative content for prospective student-athletes. Assist in determining creative direction, plans, estimates and timetables for projects.
Create graphics and develop conceptual idea/design for various visual materials for promotional and marketing purposes, such as brochures, posters, flyers, web pages, and media. Provide professional services to produce materials integrated across a variety of media including print, photography, video, web and multimedia.
Assist with media, marketing and motivational strategy for the football program. Work with the video production staff to produce highlight and motivational content.
Coordinate publishing and printing projects for the football program, including brochures, game programs and material with a primary emphasis on recruiting material that are used to project a positive image of the University, athletic program and the teams/individuals involved.
Coordinate the design of various items for the promotion of the football program, including, but not limited to, recruiting correspondence, signage, logos, sales presentations, brochures, flyers and forms. Coordinate the preparation of marketing/sales presentations and proposals. Participate in the preparation of materials for television productions. Contributes to the design and development of Internet sites, including planning and designing elements of the site. Responsibilities include maintaining artist-designed pages in HTML, coding script and queries, and applying new technology processes and ideas to editorial requests.
Provide interesting and compelling content for the University’s official athletic web site(s) and social media site(s) serving fans, students, student-athletes, coaches, sponsors and media. Work with department public relations specialists to most effectively promote the football program through the world wide web.
Contribute to the conceptualization, design, development, implementation and underlying architecture of University’s official athletic web site(s), utilizing uniform fonts, formatting, icons, images, layout techniques and modularization, including maintenance of HTML template and image archives. Determine the appropriate compression techniques, resolutions, sizes, color designs and depth to insure images, photographs, and graphics are delivered at a sufficiently high speed and quality for intended output media. Maintain links to the Internet and searches/locates new links; interacts regularly with third-party vendors and/or partners.
Work Hours: 37.5 hours per week.
Length of Assignment: 12 months
Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, journalism, communications, advertising or similar field.
Two (2) years of experience in graphic design, videography, motion graphics and photography, multi-media production platforms (web sites, animation, graphic design).
Equivalent experience as a graduate student assistant may also be considered.
Knowledge & experience with Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Adobe Premiere & Adobe After Effects.
Proven success producing creative and innovative multi-media content.
Knowledge of professional and cinematic video cameras.
Knowledge of video production, including but not limited to shooting, non-linear editing, color correction, audio editing.
Possess advanced skills in word processing, desk publishing and web writing software.
Demonstrated knowledge of making and using design concepts for guides, web, multimedia, video and photography.
Demonstrated knowledge of professional photography such as composition, lighting, photo editing, retouching, black and with and color.
Demonstrated ability and knowledge of computer hardware and software, such as Quark, InDesign, Illustrator, Acobat, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, Word, etc.
Demonstrated knowledge of HTML and CSS development.
Demonstrated knowledge of making and using design concepts for print, web, multimedia, photographs, video illustrations, plans, charts and models (Scale, color, typography, etc.)
Knowledge of basic and advanced principles and practice of video acquisition and editing.
Must have the ability to create as well as review and recognize high-quality and compelling digital media needed for the effective dissemination of vital university information.
Maintain high standard of ethics and integrity related to intercollegiate athletics.
Knowledge of NCAA Division I Intercollegiate Athletics.
Strong working Knowledge of NCAA and conference rules, regulations, policies and guidelines and the ability to apply those rules.
Demonstrated knowledge of design, editing and marketing practices and public relations skills.
Exhibit strong creative, organizational and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated skills in writing and editing copy
