Serve as primary process owner for both Mechanical and Controls engineering, owning and maintaining ISO documentation for both departments with the support of document control groups.
Work with other departments and existing teams to develop engineering controls and standards that will enhance the effectiveness of the organization’s design project execution processes (phase gate process).
Implement change control and release gates around the Engineering Platforms across the organization.
In collaboration with Business Unit leaders, provide technical leadership and direction to Mechanical, Electrical Controls, Simulation and Software Engineering Teams to prioritize projects, enable effective change and align all Engineering System Initiatives to the organization’s Strategic Goals.
Develop, manage, and train the core PLM Engineering Operations project team during the implementation and alignment of the PLM platform to address ongoing corporate CI initiatives.
Lead the implementation assuring quality, benefits, schedule and cost targets are achieved.
In collaboration with Business Unit leaders, develop and implement methodology to track project metrics and carry out a formal team reviews at the end of each phase that are aligned with approved project timelines and specified budgets.
In collaboration with Business Unit Leaders, drive the engineering teams and processes for cost reduction and efficiency both within engineering discipline and across the organization.
Ensure on time delivery and effective prioritization of engineering releases according to project plans.
Create a culture within engineering that pro-actively anticipates and manages deviations from the project plan, and carry out corrective measures.
Provide oversight and direction in the development of a simulation and software engineering team, including the vision, objectives, and capabilities for each team.
Focus on the design and implementation of new business processes in engineering throughout the organization.
Responsible for the overall stability, accuracy, performance, and key ROI’s of the PLM Engineering Systems and Process Platform across the organization.
Work with existing teams in the organization to develop engineering controls, standards, and release gates around the PLM platform across the organization.
Assist teams in defining mechanical and controls engineering standards to promote product re-use, quality and to maintain corporate visibility to the manufacturing floor.
Design and maintain data hierarchies and libraries.
Work closely with supply chain to select and implement a preferred vendor program including defining standard parts.
Develop presentations, materials and manage project plans to be presented to the Executive Management Team and Steering Committees.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or similar, required.
Master’s degree in Engineering or MBA preferred.
Fifteen years of experience in custom manufacturing, Engineer To Order (ETO) or comparable industry preferred.
Direct PLM or PDM project design and previous implementation experience required.
7+ years leading mechanical design and/or controls engineering functions, and Engineering Change Process Management with a focus on system integration, management, and implementations of Effective Engineering Solutions in mid-to-large market businesses (equivalence with a $500+ million company).
Multi-discipline, process-driven technical leadership experience.
Proven manager of a multi-level, matrixed organization, including demonstrating the following abilities: Setting vision, developing and implementing execution plans, budget management and accountability, time management, managing to plan, developing talent, coaching, delegating and conflict resolution and effective problem solving.
5+ plus years’ experience providing leadership and achieving measurable results from large scale, multi-functional corporate change programs.
Demonstrated engineering process ownership with proven track record of robust implementation, continuous improvement, team compliance and documentation.
Demonstrated ability to effectively recruit, identify and develop talent, and build a bench of future technical leaders.
Possess a clear understanding of Engineering and PLM value drivers and implementation methodology.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a staff matrixed role across operating units effectively influencing others within engineering and in other functions.
Ability to set and uphold engineering and design standards, including promoting, managing and implementing various design reuse program.
Ability to operate in a consultative fashion while working with peers, executives, organizational management and while advising process change.
Demonstrated ability to manage third parties.
Capable of managing a multi-level organization, including demonstrating the following abilities: coaching other leaders, delegating appropriately and managing conflict.
Excellent leadership and conflict management skills to ensure effective working relationships with all parties.
Prior Lean (or six sigma) experience and demonstrated capability to break down complex problems while leading others through structured problem solving.
