The Edward J. Hines Jr. VA Medical Center, Hines, IL, is a level 1A facility with consults and referrals from VISN Medical Centers and outpatient clinics. They are seeking a full-time Endocrinologist with strong academic and research credentials to join the existing Endocrinology Program. Applicants preferred to have appropriate credentials for a faculty appointment at the Assistant Professor level or higher at Loyola University of Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine.
Provider is responsible for all functions which fall under the scope of care of Endocrinology. Physician will provide medical care for patients in the Endocrinology section in cooperation with mid-level providers and other Endocrinology/Diabetes staff. The physician will admit, evaluate, diagnose, treat and provide consultation to patients of all ages, with diseases, injuries and disorders associated with the broad spectrum of endocrine disorders and diabetes. Duties include clinical, administrative and research management, either directly or through delegated authority and are of the following:
Initial evaluation of patients with Endocrine related disorder and Diabetes
Management/treatment of patients with Endocrine/Diabetes related disorders
Shared coverage of providing emergency care during off-tours
Fellow/Resident/Student supervision/education to include formal lectures and clinic and bedside teaching, oversight of trainee documentation in medical records, supervision of procedures, and supervision of patients on research studies.
Adheres to all information security and privacy measures set by VHA and the Medical Center.
Identifies individual professional learning needs and participates in formal programs, workshops, seminars, conferences, as well as self-directed learning activities, completes facility wide mandatory education in a timely manner.
Establish and maintain professional relationships within Medicine Service, and with other services and facility management which result in improved patient care.
Provide assistance to the Endocrinology Section Chief with regard to other duties that may be requested and/or in the absence of. These may include but are not limited to, assisting in data assimilation for VA reports, quality assurance programs, attends medical center committees and/or teams as assigned.
Supports the medical center-wide research mission. This includes, when appropriate, assistance in conducting studies regarding treatment modalities, outcomes, and other aspects of patient care following VA regulations, protocols and policies governing research.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Hours may be slightly flexible

Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Physical Requirements: Walking, bending, stooping, and some lifting in the direct care of patients. There may also be extended periods of sitting.

Annual leave shall accrue for full-time physicians at the rate of eight (8) hours per biweekly pay period.
