Position Summary

The Director, Career Services assists the Academic Director in the management of the program as it relates to student career development, marketing the program to industry, cultivating corporate partnerships, and enhancing faculty recruitment efforts. The Director, Career Services will serve as Columbia University's liaison to the corporate, professional, and industry communities in conjunction with the Academic Director. The incumbent will be the primary party responsible for building and maintaining industry relationships and creating pathways for internship and career opportunities for students. The Director, Career Services will take an active role with the Academic Director in creating the strategic plan for key Program components that enhance the student experience by providing opportunities for students to explore career options and develop career decision-making skills. The role is responsible for supporting the implementation of key aspects of the strategic plan through close collaboration with cross-departmental colleagues in Career Strategies, Industry Relations, Alumni Relations, and Faculty Affairs.

Responsibilities

Reinforcing the Academic Directors’ efforts, the Director, Career Services is responsible for:

Recruiting, developing, managing, and retaining industry relationships in support of the Program and students
Cultivating relationships with employers, understanding their hiring and recruiting needs, and promoting opportunities for Program students
Building on-going relationships with Program alumni and securing career development opportunities for current students
Facilitating engagement opportunities for Program students with industry professionals, employers, and alumni
Assisting in planning, promoting, and implementing programmatic events focused on student career development, such as workshops, speakers’ panels, and networking sessions
Assisting with the active recruitment, appointment, on-boarding and orientation of top-tier faculty for the Program
Building relationships with high profile faculty across leading institutions, advocating for the program and Columbia’s employer brand
Enhancing the Program’s social media presence, sharing brand-building stories and cultivating a broad network of followers
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned or requested

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree desirable
5 years related experience

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience as a Chief Risk Officer in the banking and/or financial services industry

Other Requirements

Experience in client development or industry relations
Strong professional network of ERM contacts, such as CROs
Entrepreneurial spirit with proven success building new practices and approaches
Strong relationship builder with the ability to influence key decision-maker
Strong communication skills; ability to interface at all levels inside and outside of the university
Ability to problem solve, establish priorities, and work under pressure without supervision required
Strong customer service mentality
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills required
