We are currently seeking an Editorial/Journals Manager of Academic Peer-Reviewed Journals to join our dynamic editorial team.

Summary

This position is responsible for the launch, spearhead, management, and growth of 20+ journals within the publications portfolio of the Company's biomedical topic.

The Editorial/Journals Manager is responsible for overseeing the editorial quality, impact, and success of assigned journals within the Company's expectations. Skills include, but are not limited to, developing strong relationships with Editors-in-Chief, Associate Editors, Editorial Board Members, and Managing Editors; understanding the academic peer review process, analyzing existing workflows, and monitoring journal pipelines; coordinating and collaborating with multiple internal teams from Production to Marketing and Operations; Managing vendor relationships and Society relationships, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all Editorial operations of assigned journals.
  • Communicate with Editors-in-Chief, Managing Editors, and Editorial Board members on a range of topics including journal-building, assessment of critical content, manuscript acquisition strategies, etc.
  • Liaise with Production and Marketing teams to drive successful new editorial initiatives.
  • Research and analyze comparative data to facilitate optimal editorial content and journal impact (experience with Web of Science, ScholarOne, and Atypon a plus).
  • Assess competing journals and plan competitive strategies.
  • Research, build, and implement new international editorial approaches for each journal.
  • Coordinate with Marketing teams to build greater visibility of journals around the globe.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Operations teams to galvanize international opportunities for all journals within the portfolio.
  • Travel domestically and internationally to host Editorial Board Meetings, social events, and journal launches.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years experience working in print and online academic publishing, preferably in the STM market.
  • Excellent project management and organization skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Outstanding presentation skills.
  • Handle high volume of email correspondence and other work.
  • Critical thinking, speed of response, and flexibility are key character advantages.
  • Must have strong attention to detail.
  • Must have strong knowledge of academic peer review.
  • Experience with Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics) and ScholarOne.
  • Success with major indexing services including PubMed/MEDLINE, PubMed Central, Web of Science.
  • Solid computer skills, including knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint.

Education

  • Four-year college degree required.
