Modern video games rely on many different services behind the scenes. From matchmaking, marketplace, and social features to anti-cheat detection, leaderboards, and server-side physics calculations. The Senior Systems Engineer works as part of a team responsible for the design of the system architecture, server infrastructure management, and advanced technical support. He/She also provides technical leadership required to effectively deliver high-quality, timely IT solutions and services that meet EA’s business needs.

What a Senior Systems Engineer does at EA:
Provides effective solutions to the most difficult operations engineering problems
Long-term thinking with respect to major design and technology choices
Collaborate within complex reporting relationships to reconcile competing priorities to achieve business unit objectives
Communicates at an expert level (via documentation and verbally) with both peers and stakeholders
Collaborates with architects across functions to help set infrastructure design direction for delivering highly reliable, scalable, and operable solutions
Partners with various development teams, DBAs and QA in a DevOps model of an agile development process
Demonstrates entrepreneurial perspective in the ideation and implementation of products and services to accelerate growth
Transforms business ideas into implementable technology solutions; considering build, buy and partnering alternatives
Makes decisions which may have a broad impact and influence organizational direction
Rapidly adapts to new and changing situations in tactically solving immediate problems and developing longer term, strategic solutions, in parallel
Drives continuous improvement through Change Management procedures (designing, defining roadmaps, standardizing of processes and methodologies)
Periodic participation in rotational 24 hour on-call support
The next great EA Senior Systems Engineer needs:
Strong knowledge of UNIX OS administration and variants (Linux, RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu)
Experience designing highly available solutions, at scale, with security and performance considerations
Experience with general networking concepts (TCP/IP routing, VLANs, QoS, ACLs, VPN)
Excellent design and troubleshooting experience with DNS, LDAP, SSH, Syslog and related network services
Working knowledge of enterprise storage technologies and protocols such as NFS, CIFS, iSCSI, Software Defined Storage, Object Storage
Strong development experience in programming/scripting languages (Preferred: Go, Python, and/or Ruby)
Knowledge of the software development lifecycle and experience with source code management tools
Experience integrating Open Source tools and software
Experience with enterprise monitoring tools (NewRelic, Zabbix, Nagios, etc)
Strong ability to troubleshoot complex OS issues ranging from system resources to application stack traces
Ability to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in complex systems and drive performance optimizations
Obsessive desire to raise the operational bar by automating and improving everything including process improvements, tool standardization and general technologies
Experience in these areas is a plus:
Public cloud services and deployment (AWS, GCP, Azure)
Virtualization (VMWare, Vagrant, Rocket)
Automation and configuration management tools (Chef, Puppet)
Continuous Integration, Continuous Delivery tools (Git, Jenkins, Ansible, Bamboo)
Enterprise storage solutions (NetApp, Tintri, EMC, Pure)
Building and maintaining infrastructure for Micro Services (Containers, Docker, Kubernetes/Swarm orchestration)
