About this opportunity:
As a participant in the Small Commercial Underwriter On-boarding and Risk Education (CORE) training program, you’ll gain critical experience to prepare you for a successful underwriting career at The Hartford. You’ll complete a formalized 14-week training program that begins in either January or June and consists of virtual learning, live work, an integrated sales training curriculum, as well as classroom training in a Center (Windsor, CT; Charlotte, NC; New Hartford, NY; Phoenix, AZ; or San Antonio, TX) location.

Responsibilities as a CORE Sales Underwriting Associate Include:

Work on our small commercial underwriting sales team selling directly to small business owners
Will handle all commercial lines, including Business Owner's Policy (BOP), Commercial Automobile, Workers' Compensation, Professional Liability and Bonds
Accurately develop and price individual risks, analyzing loss and risk information; recognizing "red flags" and file inconsistencies; in order to write profitable commercial business
Possessing a strong understanding of the sales process, how to close sales, and maximize cross sell opportunities to other small commercial lines of business
Advocating The Hartford's value proposition including its long standing history and payroll deduct billing model. Counsel small business insurance customers on their needs and sell products and services that offer solutions to those needs
Effectively establishing rapport and developing/maintaining very productive business relationships with internal and external customers (e.g., small business owners, payroll partners, payroll representatives, etc.)

Qualifications
Two years or more of Insurance experience/ Commercial Lines Underwriting preferred AND call center consultative selling experience
Must be Property & Casualty licensed- or able to obtain within 90 days of hire
Workers' Compensation and/or Property / Liability experience and knowledge is also highly desirable
Ambition to exceed reaching maximum potential, continuous learner, action oriented and creative
Exceptional consultative selling, customer and relationship management skills
Outstanding organization, desk management, time management and PC skills. Ability to produce a high volume of quality work in real time inbound call center environment
Comfort and confidence in balancing inbound sales calls from a queue, along with outbound and email communications to close sales
Excellent written and verbal communications, interpersonal, negotiation, and influential skills
Strong independent thinking, decision making and judgment
Operating hours between 8AM-7PM EST; shift may vary based on needs of the Business Unit with flexibility to work 10:30AM-7:00PM.
