Job Summary
The Plant Manager has the responsibility of overseeing plant activities in order to meet business objectives. This role is accountable for all aspects of plant performance, and will ensure that objectives are attained in a cost-effective manner that is consistent with Customer Requirements, Quality Control Plans and minimum OE Standards. He/she will delegate authority to staff/direct reports to ensure that production and order fulfillment schedules are executed efficiently and on-time. This role is accountable for leading and managing all plant operations in a manner that is consistent with CKS Vision and Values.
Key Accountabilities
- Drive “Zero Accident” Safety culture and results across all Plant Associates
Ensure implementation of Behavior Based Safety Program. Ensure compliance with and execution of CKS “Path to Safety”. Ensure OSHA/DOT compliance and accuracy of recordable incident Log. Administer and conduct effective Safety training and communications. Ensure complete and effective retention of Safety Training records. Ensure compliance with CKS Plant/Fleet Safety Policy and Procedures. Establish and maintain process for housekeeping and sanitation (5S/GMP’s)Conduct routine Plant-wide Communication Meetings with all Employees
- Drive “Zero Complaint” culture and results across all Plant Associates
Lead Q.A. System implementation which that meets minimum CKS OE Standards. Ensure compliance with all Company and Regulatory requirements/standards. Develop capable systems, processes and skills that enable “zero complaint” performance – ensure strict adherence to all Quality Control Plans. Ensure implementation of and effective Quality Improvement Plan (QIP. )Implementation and effective utilization of statistical quality control (SPC4). Report accurately and timely on any and all Quality or Food Safety issues. Ensure effective Control of Nonconforming Products (Heldware). Manage a process for effective Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Corrective Action/Preventive Action (CAPA) in response to issues identified. Ensure that an effective system for HACCP is implemented and sustained. Conduct review of Customer Complaints and follow up actions for all RCA/CAPA with accountability for timing and ownership. Achieve required Audit Certifications (SQF). Review OE Audit finding and ensure follow up/corrective actions are taken. Training and education for Operators, QC Tech’s and Mgmt. Staff. Ensure CKS vendor quality programs are fully implemented at the plant
- Drive Continuous Improvement in Manufacturing Efficiency
Utilize efficiency/productivity metrics reporting (Line efficiency/PPM) and hold Staff accountable to established goals. Leadership for implementation and effective use of Preventive Maintenance and Repair Program (CMMS/Proteus). Implementation of rapid changeovers (SMED) and effective set-ups to deliver first part compliance with product specifications. Leadership for Pareto analysis of downtime and corrective actions. Implement training/qualification of all Production and support personnel. Ensure accurate and timely reporting of production line output
- Drive Continuous Improvement in Plant Financial (P&L) Performance – ensure that financial targets are met or exceeded
Control of Material Expenses – PET and HDPE Resin, Color, Corrugated, Bags, Caps, Misc. Institute best practices for handling and control of resin/regrind. Ensure proper color blending and LDR. Institute best practices for efficient use of packaging components. Ensure effective inventory control for all raw materials. Manage inventory levels in synch with expected demand. Manage effective Labor Cost controls. Proper crewing levels and daily/weekly monitoring. Tracking and control of overtime. Effective flexing of Plant Labor with sales volume. Conduct monthly review of Plant P&L with appropriate team members. Conduct review of P&L for mid-month projections
- Drive World Class Customer Service
Implement effective process for Production and Inventory Planning. Ensure stocking levels to maximize order fulfillment and minimize W/C. Foster long-term win/win Customer Relationships through responsiveness, consistent execution and effective communication. Work collaboratively with Sales and conduct periodic customer reviews
- Build and Develop a highly functioning and effective Team
Ensure that team members have clearly defined objectives and accountabilities. Candidate must show servant leadership skills. Conduct formal Talent Assessments and formulate a plan to address development opportunities for each member of the Plant Manager’s Staff. Take corrective actions to address underperformers. Ensure that effective training is conducted for all affected Plant Employees. Ensure that Top Performers are recognized and appreciated. Conduct Annual Performance Reviews in accordance with Company Policy. Conduct effective recruitment of top industry talent as needed. Preferred Experience, Education and Expertise
- Minimum 5 years in process manufacturing environment, blow molding plastic bottles and containers highly preferred
- Strong business acumen with prior P&L responsibility in plants(s) of similar magnitude
- Hands-on experience in Quality Control and/or production in process mfg. environment
- Working knowledge of statistical quality control (SQC), with prior application
- Heavy experience with Uniloy, Bekum, Jomar, Rocheleau, Sidel, 1 Blo, Aoki blow mold and ISBM machinery
- Familiar with GMP’s, Q.C. methods, instrumentation/test measures and CI processes
- Detail oriented with strong work ethic
- Computer/software literate – MS Office Suite, statistical package, CMMS, ERP
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Leadership ability with potential/desire to move into roles(s) of increased responsibility
- Minimum 2-yr college degree and/or technical education or experience equivalent
- Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated success in team environment
- Strong team builder/coach
